Strange package. Might be enough to dislodge some best-22 types, I suppose.

I'm not suggesting specifically Harmes, but that type of player who is regularly best-22, rarely best-6, and positionally is fairly easy for the source club to cover.

Might also end up being the grease that makes a bunch of other trades happen, shifting notes to make Rankine and Jackson and so on possible.

The two extra list spots will probably put North in the market for a couple more mid-range draft picks, too.

Overall, it is kind of meh.

It's modest, but I think the extra 2 rookie spots will really help, in conjunction with the 2nd and 3rd round picks.
Nth's VFL side was regularly getting smashed, which is not a good place for their young players / high draft picks to develop.  The two extra rookie places will make their VFL team more competitive (VFL salary cap is just $120k, so these 2 rookies will earn the equivalent of the entire VFL salary cap) as well as provide a larger pool for the Roos to find a player.

While they could end up trading the picks, I think a good crop of young kids playing a season in a competitive VFL team (with the VFL cap being used to recruit some mature players) would be better for them.

Thankfully, they didn't end up with a 1st round pick. Their 2nd round is still #20 which is a decent pick.

Seems bugger all compared to what GC received

It’s enough to get a couple of decent professionals in without sending your own picks. We should have got similar; remember how good Bernie Vince was? Second round pick IIRC.

And in fairness to North I reckon we got overs for Col Sylvia (rip) to get that pick, which we forwards to the Crows for probably slight overs to get Vince. Crows had been punished for salary cap cheating and needed the pick. Classic afl win win arrangement.

North have no free agents to fatten up. They’ve cut the list too deep and brought problems on themselves but this might be a fair compromise.

They used a rookie spot on the retired Tom Lynch last year. Clearly didn’t value the spots. Now they get 2 more.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
