If in 2023 with our current list, we don't make finals. Would you consider Goodwin being back in the chopping board?

I just can't stop thinking how inconsistent the teams results have been in his tenure. And for mine, the list is too good to be wasted...

It could also be that out depth is thin and we need a mini rebuild... hence lack of development via VFL. We've been lucky with injuries... Spargo, Sparrow, and ANB are likely on their last contracts. Problem is we don't actually have anyone to replace them.

I haven't followed the VFL team much but heard good things of Woewodin, there's Bedford, Bowey...

Hopefully the coach staff is braver next year and bring the kids in!

depends as to the reason why we miss finals

if we fall away poorly with minimal injury concerns as a result of the hangover of this season's finish, then he'd definitely be under pressure going into the final year of his current contract in 2024

that said, i expect to make finals next year with our mids and back make-up (pending injuries)

anb probably yes, but spargo and sparrow will both hang around afl lists for at least a further five years

bitterly disappointed with sparrow; just hasn't come on and can't seem to win much football as a midfield rotation

The measure of the club will be to respond and go top 4 next year.

Given we just "did a Melbourne" after being top 2 all year and going out in straight sets, the most typical way to respond next year would be to lose the opening round to North, but then win 10+ in a row somewhere during the season, and then lose an elimination final to...wait for it.... ESSENDON.

You just know it's going to happen.

I wouldn't think so. We still have two or three of the best players in the comp and we broke the mould with a premiership last year, there's plenty of scope to go again. Disappointing end, and a disappointing second half of the year really, but I reckon we'll be thereabouts again next year. Plenty of scope for improvement without changing a great deal, injuries willing.

Collingwood went from 17th to a possible prelim through a different game plan that accentuated their teams strengths. 
 

Geelong this year look way more dangerous by moving the ball quickly and making adjustments to suit the players they have. 
 

Hardwick went from his possible last year to 3 flags in a row. 

All of this happened by the coach changing what they do. 
 

Goodwin needs to change (in my opinion) to mitigate his very evident faults. His faults mostly stem from the fact that he is way too conservative on many levels. 
 

One is: His game plan puts too much emphasis on players that aren’t good enough to carry that weight. His rigid game plan continues that emphasis on these players. I’ve said it in another thread, but ANB plays an important role in our team. We are better when he is in the team weirdly. But, he is not a good enough player in his role to fulfill the role and be as effective as we need him to be. That’s because of our game plan.
 

So, he can either bring in better players that are able to carry that weight, or change the game plan to suit the players he has at his disposal.

He can either persist with the 1 plan he is and getting 3-4 better players he needs (isn’t going to happen) OR he can adjust the game plan and allow the team to operate at a higher efficiency.

GF or bust ! At the very minimum PF. Anything else is utterly failure for this list of players.

Certainly it was a disappointment and you have to begin playing what is in front of you, even if it wasn't what you were looking for...!
