Could Josh Frydenberg be the new AFL CEO?

A CEO needs to demonstrate executive excellence above reproach. I’m not sure if Frydenberg would meet this standard.

Harley might be a better candidate?

Hmm not sure many CEO's would qualify Sk.Ā

Herald-Sun reported on the weekend that Martin Pakula, one of a swathe of retiring Victorian Ministers, was seen chatting to Gill McLachlan in the last day or so. Being the Herald-Sun, that lead to an immediate jump to the conclusion in that journal of record (written in sarcasm font) that Pakula is in contention for the job of AFL CEO.Ā

I detest his former colleagues, but Josh was probably the least of offensive of that bunch.Ā

Either way, please keep career politicians away from the game I love.Ā

'Moderate' Josh - lol

Go Blues!

The best person ever involved in the AFL was Graeme Samuel who was the prime mover in turning the AFL (then the VFL) from an amateurish, bankrupt code to the professional business it is today. When he joined the VFL, he wouldn't have known one end of a football from the other.Ā

I've read this whole thread to see if anyone identified the difference between one end of the football and the other. They both look the same to me?

Guessing Frydenberg must have signed last week. The short lived 'Kooyong Curse' was certainly broken with a vengeance on ThursdayĀ

I wouldn't be trusting any of the coalition in charge.Ā  First thing they'd do is sell off assets to make the books look better.Ā

Do we really need someone cut from the same cloth as Gil? Someone who spends an inordinate amount of time at bloody Portsea Polo and has more interest in attending more Uni Blues vs. Old Xavs matches than they do AFL ones?Ā

At least Mike Fitzpatrick and Gillon McLachlan played the game at AFL level (albeit Gil was on the Carlton reserves list).* Frydenberg is more where he is because of his connections with the good old boys network.

And people wonder why the AFL is out of touch.

* Demetriou played the game at the top level and can mix easily in those circles. However, from the sounds of things, he is more a social climber and shmoozer who was not to the manor born, but got to where he was by knowing how to work a room and shake the right hands.

His testimony at the NSW inquiry as to Crown's fitness to hold a licence for a new venue in Barangaroo should tell you enough about owing his former position to his AFL crony mates.
