RIP Ray Manley.

Former football manager of the Dees has passed away.

A really good Demon and a nice guy.

Sincere condolences to family and friends.

Very sad to hear this news. Ray was a hard working administrator in a time when staff numbers and resources at VFL clubs were limited and you really needed to be hands on in running the organization.

Condolences to Ray’s family.

Historical footnote.  I was living in Darwin in the early 1980's & involved in the local footy.

I wrote to the MFC to tell them that there were a lot of talented Aboriginal players in the NT & suggested that Melbourne should look at recruiting some of the local talent in particular the Rioli boys.

Ray wrote back & thanked me for the info & said they were aware of the local talent pool & were monitoring things however nothing came of it.

No wonder you’re cranky.

Nah I only get cranky with the serial windbag, historical revisionists and chardonnay socialists that use Demonland to lecture to the rest of us.

Great Guy "Podge" Manley, I spent a couple of good social times with him in a different time and space in the Robby Era!

Vale Cheers

I was at MFC when Ray Manley was and on game day he was always listening to the races to the get result letting players know which horse won and how much it paid.

He was a lazy person who got the job and just wallowed in the job giving his offsider all he work he did not want to do, these are facts I saw first hand.

I don't blame Cranky because there were a number of leads given to Ray and he along with Jim Durnan ignored.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.
