Does anyone else find it perverse?

Seekers,

FWIW I also think Daniher is a realist and understands that anything other than top four will probably se him not get another contract.

I have disagreed with some of the things he has done (particularly during matches!) down the years, however to reach the highest level of coaching and playing AFL commands some level of respect. Coaching is by no means an easy gig at any level especially in the AFL where fortunes (and supporters) can be fickle.

This thread isn't directed at people like you or Jaded who give a realistic perspective of the situation. It's more directed at the litany of morans who write things along the line of "ZOMG I hope he lose his jarb as we will b sooo much betterer under Garry Lyon or Michael Voss!!1!1"

I just find it sad that there are people who seem to be enjoying our and Daniher's plight at the moment! Because those fates are very much intwined.

if we have voss or lyon as a coach..we wont do as well as we will with daniher..we need someone who has been an assistant, i.e longmire. he would be perfect. Sure daniher has been a great servant but i can tell you, 10 years without a flag...he wouldve been gone at other clubs by now.

.... that there are a number of people on here hoping someone loses their job?

The reason this club has FAILED, FAILED & FAILED since our beloved leader Norm Smith coached is because the

dumb gentlemanly attitude, everyone knows that gentlemen will always fall in behind. Very nice in society life but in the cut throat world of pro sport, it's plain suicide. If you won't take the hard line then just hide in the shadows down the back & let some other team shine.

I don't think you'll find a lot of posters who don't go to games as some sort of punishment to the club.

I go every week, and I stay until the final siren even if we are getting our arses handed to us on a plate (like on Sunday).

I wasn't accusing posters of not going to games but I think the attitude that people who are trying to be positive and offer support to a team under seige are accused of being blind and supporting mediocrity.

Let me ask you this, do you blindly support every player who pulls on a Melbourne gurnsey, or are you enough of a realist to recognise that some players (if not all) have their downfalls?

Putting on the jumper and jumping into the bullring deserves respect. I hope whoever plays on match day does well and proves me wrong even if I disagree with their initial selection in the side.

Anyone who doesn't is playing favourites and doesn't have the right to then turn around and accuse Daniher of doing the same.

How is that any different to Daniher? Yes, he's done a great job promoting our football club. He has battled on despite board upheavals, draft penalties, poor finances and facilities and so on, but his primary job (as he said himself) is to win games.

As a 10 year coach, he needs to be judged on his performances, not in isolation, but over the whole 10 year period. 7 years ago he got us to a grand final. 4 years ago, we were bottom 4. For the past 3 seasons who scrapped into the top 8 and were extremely disappointing in September. All this while having a relatively good run with injuries.

This year we will no doubt struggle because we have significant injuries. Nobody blames Daniher for that, but in the big scheme of things we will again be unsuccessful.

It is not different to Daniher but the reality is whether you like it or not he is coach. Whilst he is coach he deserves a level of respect and support.

Bottom line is, he hasn't got us what we all want, a premiership. Does that make him a bad person? Of course not. Does that make him a bad coach? Not even. Does that make him a candidate for criticism? Absolutely.

A lot of supporters, myself included, don't want to get rid of Daniher for the sake of getting rid of him. We want him gone because we can't see a change happening any other way.

BTW, I've always maintained that it's not who you criticise, but how you do it.

Your last point is what I'm getting at, hoping somebody loses their job and doesn't do well for an organisation we all support seems a bit macabre to me.

I understand your point but the coach makes yearly decisions that finishes careers for many players, it's imperative that the right person is appointed as our coach.

I dont think anyone is enjoying our current situation too much. I dont think there are really that many who actually hate Danners ( I dont ) . I also dont think our fortunes will change much without change and in this effort there wil be collateral damge of sorts. Its nothing personal, just practical.

That's because it is in the coach's job description to do so and he's paid to do it.

'Supporter' is a voluntary position.

Anyone hoping somebody fails (player or coach) just to prove they were right or vindicate their vendettas cannot call themselves a supporter IMO.

is it a case of a person wishing a player or coach to fail to substansiate their stance ..

or simply taking a stance on the failure of a player or coach ?

I only get confused - all summer we're supposed to be playing a run and carry game, but on the week end we're told that the skill levels at the club suddenly aren't up to the other teams standards - a run and carry game requires very good skills - I know that we have a few players out, but surely if you've been around the club for ten years, selected the players, determined a plan that is both what you require to win and can be carried out by your team, to have your coach say at round 3 you don't have the skills just amazes and amuses me.

I think if you have been in a job and still can get it right, then it is time to move on and give another a chance.

I have been a long time supporter of Daniher.....I think he has done a great job as coach, and he without doubt has always served the MFC with the clubs best interests at heart.........lets face it.....he is a quality bloke!

I will support Daniher as coach for as long as he is in charge, and involved with the MFC.

But do I think he should be appointed as coach for next year and beyond......no.

I actually feel slightly guilty for saying that.....but if I take the emotion out of it, I think that the time is right to move forward with a new coach. It's not that I think that what Danners does is completely wrong, just that I honestly feel that things can be done better, and as a result, that is what is best for the MFC going forward.

It's nothing personal, it's not disloyalty, a vendetta, or even unreasonable.

It's just my view.

A true supporter accepts things as they are, takes the bad with the good or indifferent and turns up every week.

What would you prefer?

No one turns up to games or signs up as members as some form of protest against the fact we haven't won anything for 43 years and because the current team is struggling?

As for the comment "I support a club, not an individual." Good point but while Daniher is coach he is part of this club and I will support him.

Not a problem with your opinion....but others have their opinion.

I want results that are beneficial to the club....A PREMIERSHIP FLAG sooner rather than later.....I've waited a long time.

Ah, the Board members over the past ten years must have had the same attitude as you.

Explains why ND has had a decade at the club.

Too right it's a voluntary position, but answer this - Where does 100% of the income come for a football club come from, either directly or indirectly?

From the bloody supporters, we pay to see our team, we pay their incomes, and ultimately we have the decision as a group. If the supporters turn on the coach and stop going to games then the board will very quickly act.

Your problem with this argument is that you're trying to make it personal in an effort to try and take the moral high ground. This talk about "Anyone hoping somebody fails (player or coach) just to prove they were right or vindicate their vendettas cannot call themselves a supporter" is just complete crap. I'm sick of seeing my club being as soft as butter when the heat's turned up.

What [censored] vendetta are you talking about!!!!?

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
