28% from 2005 to 2015 because players from 2016-2020 haven't had enough time to establish themselves.

Of the 110 players taken in the top 10 in that time period, 31 have worn All-Australian blazers – a 28 per cent strike rate.

And of those 31, a combined 10 have come from either the 2005 or 2012 drafts.

Most years you have closer to a 20 per cent chance of landing an All-Australian calibre player in the top 10, but 2005 and 2012 both had strike rates of 50 per cent.

Good on them for doing a fair bit of legwork, but I think the results aren’t terribly informative. The All-Australian team theoretically has only around 5-7 mids (although absurdly they will get squeezed into a HFF too), but it is quite possible if not likely to have a league-wide top-20 or even top-10 AFL player who does not make it into the AA team of 22 because of a midfield glut.

Hilarious that the best bloke picked by Carlton in this period is the one they traded away

😂

That sets out the All Australian team and their draft selection.

Only 1 no 1 pick. 5 picks over 40 including one rookie draftee.

I have always thought the draft is overrated and I think a club is mad to trade a good player for a draft pick. A draft pick is the hope of a good player; a good player is an actual good player.

Bit of a selective stat. Plenty of players there are AA quality with no official selection.

Although it does highlight another issue with this list - Hawkins would have been top ten if not a Father-son selection, and May I believe would have been top ten if not a priority selection from NT by GC.

In essence I agree with your point, but sometimes good players are traded out for reasons such as homesickness, age profile, salary cap management and player behaviour (ie, off field issues).

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
