1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

it's easy to forget he only just turned 29

reckon he'll have a big one in the grand final

I hope so.

He was awesome earlier this year.

Could be a real smokey in the gf if he can play his best.

There was a lot of talk about how badly Tom McDonald’s form tapered off in the last month or so. Did it though? Football is a team game, not an individual one.

It’s not a coincidence that Brown’s apparent influence grew in the same time that McDonald’s diminished. Every time that Brown took a mark or had space to lead into, if McDonald and his man were nowhere to be seen, that’s not an accident. These are the sacrifices that key forwards make for each other.

Does Bayley Fritsch have the finals series he does, and is he able to cut the angles to find space like he does, if McDonald is cutting off his leading lanes or being close enough for his opponent to go third man up? McDonald will have been feted beyond belief internally for putting the team above himself.

Old mate earned the extension.

I do believe his form did take a fair dive.

However you raise some very pertinent points and that Tmac did a few things that were not noticed or appreciated by a few. we also don't know what instructions each player is following.

The main point for me was simply Toms blinding return to form for the first half of the season without which we would have really struggled to score. .

Leaves BBB one out.
Fritta free to roam.
Brings it to ground for Kossie/Spargo/ANB

Defenders can choose to leave him  or man up Gawn/Jackson floating forward

I’m not sure anyone could argue that he went from All Australian squad level play early in 21, to borderline holding his spot by the end of the year.

But he does take a good defender away from Fritsch and his workrate is always elite.

Looking forward to Weideman putting some pressure on him next year with a genuine 2nd tier competition in full effect.

He did have a back injury and missed a couple of games, we don't know how long his back had been troubling him.

Early in the year he was grabbing everything that came his way but the last part of the season he was getting his hands to it but not holding them.

Every one of the players in the GF played their part.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
