I found a very tiny image of the 1988 Melbourne losing VFL Grand Final poster.

Here is the link on Big Footy with all the losing Grand Final posters:losingweg-png.150229

I have looked everywhere on the Internet for a larger version of the 1988 one. However, if someone could find a larger version of the image it would be greatly appreciated.

Is it just me or a lot of the times the losing poster looks better than the winning poster?

Only thing I didn’t like was the 1964 tattoo and the “Norm Smith curse” (which I don’t subscribe to) comment. But apart from that, it’s a really great poster that I show with pride on my wall. He’s no WEG, but I think the grand final poster art is in good hands.

Be thankful that he just did that. As was pointed out earlier in the thread, he sounded a little peeved that the club was very specific that no references to cheese platters, snow, skiing or Range Rovers be included. Lord only knows what he initially planned! 😳

Looks like WEG phoned it in a bit during the mid 80’s.

The Hawthorn ‘84 and ‘85 ones are identical and, upon doing some Googling, Essendon’s 83 one was reused when they won it in ‘83. 😕

The fact is it’s rubbish. If he’s got something against the club then he can pass the baton to someone else. I thought the weg one was just perfect

I like both the WEG posters and the Mark Knight posters.

Although I slightly favour the WEG posters because of the tradition and history behind them over many decades.

Fingers crossed the 1988 and 2000 WEG grand final posters get re-used for more Melbourne Demons Premierships in the near future! 🤞 GO DEMONS!!! 👹🔴🔵

The 88 and 2000 ones are much better than the 50s/60s ones I reckon. The 50s ones in particular look a bit weird especially the mouths, 64 is good though.

The anniversary ones that have been released are pretty good too (there was one for the 55-57 three-peat as well as the 55 and 64 ones with the Demon skewering the Magpie).

Well definitely the 1988 and the 2000 WEG grand final posters do! 😉

Let's hope that they can be re-used for Premiership glory very soon. After a 57 year drought we can definitely say that Premierships are hard to win!

Now that we have a very good team we need to make the most of our opportunities so that the Melbourne Demons have sustained success.

Funnily enough I have to agree that the  Demons image for 1988 WEG grand final poster is excellent (even if it is difficult to see because it is so small and distorted).

However, I do have a stronger emotional attachment to the 2000 WEG grand final poster though. I guess I have vivid memories of it when it was shown in the Herald Sun newspaper and on TV on the grand final edition of the Footy Show on channel 9 way back in 2000. I also like how the Demon is holding a Premiership cup.

Nevertheless it woukd make sense chronologically to use 1958, then 1988 and then 2000. But we will wait any see I guess? We are certainly overdue for a few more Premiership Flags so we shall wait and see!

Good news!

I was kindly given a copy from a person on Big Footy of the image of the WEG 1988 losing VFL Grand Final poster for Melbourne.

It's a ripper this poster!

I highly recommend people save this image as it is very rare!

Yes, of course. I just like the WEG artwork.

The 1988 grand final was a horrible day! I was too young to remember it but it's not something I would ever want to re-watch either. The 2000 grand final was terrible enough!

Nevertheless, the 1958 losing grand final poster has now been re-used by the WEG family. Time for the 1988 and 2000 losing grand final posters to be re-used as well....hopefully!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
