I’m not sure it’s ever easy to beat the Eagles in Perth. They are a 5 goal or more better team in Perth than playing away. Would be interesting to see their season broken into home and away results with respective %.

Not sure about percentage but they are 7-3 at home and 3-6 away from Perth.

But they're 1-2 in their last three home games, including a loss to North and a 10-goal loss to the Dogs. And the win before that was a 5-point win against Richmond.

Yes, their form is ordinary, it’s just whether they lift after their bake from Simpson and being a big game re finals for them.
If Demons bring our A grade effort, we win.

Yep.

Bear in mind, also, that West Coast has only beaten a top 8 side once all year - Port Adelaide in Round 3.

They're 1-5 against the top 8, with us and Brisbane to play.

I’m just sick of always playing them in Perth, same as I’m always sick of playing Geelong away.

Hopefully we get up and the AFL give us the Sunday graveyard time slot next week to recover (I guess next weeks game will have to be Sunday as a 5 day break is banned by AFLPA).

And???????????

Literally nothing thrown up by concerted googlesearching (If Mark McGowan held a press conference and nobody came, etc?...)

From snippet on ABC news tonight, looks like it might have been to announce WA's response to (and acceptance of) NT saying no more WA freeloader access to Howard Springs quarantine.

Nothing to see here...

When was the last time we played the Eagles down in Melbourne?

2014.

8 straight H&A games away from Melbourne - two have been our home games sold to the NT, the other six have been away games.

Since 2010 there have only been two years in which we haven't played West Coast in Perth - 2013 and 2015. That's 9 times in 11 seasons we've been sent to Perth to play the Eagles. In the same time period, we've played them in Melbourne three times, and one of those was at Marvel (2011). Two MCG games against them since 2010.

Melksham's disposal is elite, and we need to have a look at him for the next couple of weeks.  I like his selection on that basis, but he needs to produce now, or he shouldn't be playing finals.!

Agreed, the time for sloppiness from the Melk is well and truly over. He must execute his responsibilities to a higher level of mastery including the application of forward presssure. He can be a significant element of the match-winners circle, so he should participate at that level.

Feel sorry for Hibberd. Has been a big reason for our success this year. Dropped in form last few games but certainly not alone.

We can hope, in Hibberd's case, that he is being managed for fitness and restorative reasons to be capable of a great series of performances and shut-downs (his best asset) in the finals - or earlier, if he is showing great signs of readiness.

I also can't shake the image of Vardy ruffling Max's hair after Ryan's mark. The audacity of the guy to do that after having his pants pulled down all day by Gawn was astounding. Having said that - he's not worth wasting any energy on. The dense [censored] would probably see it as a complement.

Maybe, if AVB gets lucky and is scheduled to play, he may have one little visit to Vardy during the game.

Well said ...he has done a number on not a few good players this year and I hope to see him back.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
