The injuries to Brock and Wheels are apparently not as bad as was first thought - Injured Demons cleared.

Radio reports put Brock's injury at 4 - 6 however.

Well now none of that stuff regarding Brock is really good news. After hearing there was no ligament damage I'd taken that as it being a 3-4 week injury. But if there's still a chance of broken bones...

I must admit that if it was a broken foot he was hobbling around on, you have to take your hat off to the guy. Broken bones anywhere in your body are excruciating, and I have serious doubts about most human beings' abilities to put weight on a foot with any structural damage in it. When I looked at it that way I came to the conclusion that he MUST have injured something other than the bones themselves. Surely he wouldn't be standing up if there were fractures would he?

Dr Larkins says Wheels can play this week easily. McLean 4 weeks if no break which they doubt but CAT will confirm. Im not getting my hopes up till i know for sure

Well Larkins said on the footy show that he had a scan yesterday as a precausion but he will do a CAT tomorrow to see the extent of the injury and see if there is any break. Very badly brused and the reason McLean tried to run off was he wanted to see if the injury could be runed off. Its not an ancle and there is very little chance their is a break in the foot however the CAT scan (which is better quality than a normal scan - done on Sat) will determin the extent. If its a break - 10 -12 weeks looks the outcome but if brused he could be back in 3 weeks if he really pushed himself and their was no complications. The likely outcome is 4 weeks tho with no break as he may feel ok after 3 weeks but if he was to be crunched again without it being fully healed it would be disasterious.

As for wheels, he is ok to play round 2. Ball had stiches and will wear a helmet. Wheels just had concussion and the pannel argued it was a fair bump and does not deserve any suspension.

Im not getting confident about Brocks injury till i know for sure. Although it is seriously unlikely to be any ligement damage or break (just servear brusing), there have been times that the CAT scan has showed something. We will know by tomorrow arvo at latest as hes due for the appt in the morn.

Lets hope its good news. On the + side, our man Moloney is back

Like I said before, if it was a fracture, my understanding is that he wouldn't even be able to have limped around like he did. So that's something.

The news is far from good YET for Brock. I not trying to be negative. All i'm saying is that a CT scan (not CAT scan, which means absolutely nothing other than perhaps a look around the pet shop for a new feline) of the foot would only be ordered to prove or rule out a suspicion of a fracture. We know there is bruising and swelling of the soft tissues. That MIGHT suggest a fracture, or MIGHT be just bruising. But I can't see how any of this is good news YET. I will only breathe easier IF and WHEN a fracture is ruled out. If so, Brock may be back very soon. If not, he might be out for quite a while (8-10 weeks). Fingers crossed, but journo's have no idea what they're on about when it comes to medical details... unless it was Doc Larkins or Peter Brukner who examined the foot. I do know that our doctor and doc Larkins work at the same clinic, but I doubt our doc would be too candid too early about the full extent of the injury, and the clinic is not open on the weekend.

Amen! My favourite player and have had his number on my back for the past 2 years. Whatever the problem, a speedy recovery is certainly what we all want.

Not sure about that. I was reading about an Indian spinner who bowled them to victory with a broken foot, so I think it'd be possible to hop to the boundary.

Yep. Beginning to see that. Brock has shown a fair amount of toughness in these early years, which suggests he's not the kind that would just hit the deck and wait for trainers even with some kind of minor fracture. The last 4 or 5 posts have certainly seen my mood regarding Brock drop a bit. Having said that I appreciate the info from all the qualified people above. Next time you feel you may have some medical knowledge that would eliminate certain possibilities, PLEASE don't hesitate to get online. In fact, see to it you're the first to post a thread regarding the players' health if theres pertinent information. I know we'd all appreciate it.

Good research mate. It seems we may both be right in a way (though you probably more than me). I have never heard a doctor or radiologist or radiology department in a hospital I have worked in use the term'CAT'. But it seems in the past it has been used. Now it is definitely just 'CT' (see below - CT no longer limited to just axial images), but 'CAT' may have worked its way into vocabulary in the early days of using the method. Regardless, CAT is apparently valid, and I stand corrected. But you will still never hear a doctor say 'CAT' scan. And anyway, as long as it clears Brock of any bone damage, I couldn't give a rats what it's called. I think I was a bit touchy because of our loss and the double blow of losing Brock.

Its potentially a better outcome than what was feared.

fwiw i once broke an ankle while umpiring a game of footy in the opening minute of the game but ran (or hobbeled) on it for over 10 mins when i couldnt stand it any more...it can be done i spose and a healthy dose of adrenelein can really help you out. was in plaster for 8-9 weeks after that...
