I get your frustration. How hard is it now to book interstate trips without knowing the timeslot in advance of more than 4 weeks.

I wonder if this will be a permanent feature of the AFL going forward (floating fixtures) or if it's just a COVID thing?

I suspect that covid will prove to be the trojan horse the AFL use to do this long term BBP. It's already gone from a 6 week bracket down to just 2. It'll end up like the NFL with 'flex times' specifically for the armchair fan.

Let's not kid ourselves. A large part of the reason we got the Saturday Night slot is because of Sydney. They've been given both Saturday Night slots for round 7 and 8.

While I'm happy we've received it, there is still a lot that needs to go right to get the better slots. If we were playing some other teams, I don't think we would have got it.

Partly right.... but it is interesting to note that high drawing teams like Collingwood, Carlton and Hawthorn don't have any Fri or Sat night games.   The league does appear to be giving better coverage to the teams in the 8.  If we keep winning, we'll get more prime time opportunities.

Bugg@r. Will need to change my flight time back from Hobart.

We booked from Friday to Tuesday to be sure. Now to book our tour of Maria Island on Sat or Monday.

Good plan DW. We've done 3 night stays before and included a day trip out to Bruny Island. Also visited MONA twice and are over it thb. Hobart itself is dead on a Sunday. Don't know anything about Maria Island but will have a look at it for a future trip.

I love Saturday night games at the MCG.   Very happy with that.  Imagine both teams are still undefeated?

Sydney should be, they have a soft draw coming up.

They're probably just being careful as the dreaded hotel quarantine restarted today and it is inevitable that the Vic labor government will screw it up again.

Cue Deflection Dieter to tell me  how the other mob would have done it worse lol

Returning Australians should be forced to do 18 days hotel quarantine and then submit a negative test before they jump on a plane to Australia.

Aside from family members being reunited, there is absolutely no upside for returning Australians to come home, considering we have the virus under control at the moment.

But a topic for another thread.

They're Australians. They are entitled to come home.

I don't understand why the hotels selected to use for quarantine are in the middle of our largest cities. Go regional. We also have Christmas island which can do the job. And as for having a quarantine hotel at an international airport. the mind boggles.

we're also entitled to free movement but the government can put a stop to that on the back of a single case. i feel their plight but we're essentially hostage now to these returning travellers.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
