I'm not going to trawl through old papers to find an ad for you, but when I was involved with a local club (non footy) we were approached asking if we had things students could do to get their hours up, plus my kids are involved with little aths and they have students rotate through there occasionally and at their school they also have some attend to assist with P.E (and as far as I know it's a non-paid gig). This is a very very common thing.

Also the MFC didn't backtrack on the ad, they clarified for those who got offended.

Well,

You are not comparing apples for apples. Work experience wherever it is must be part of some course of study or development plan to get a job otherwise it is exploitation of the worst kind. You sit on your side of the fence with your buddies and I will sit on mine. I am no Dan andrews fan but how do you think his Union dominated Govt will view this development while we go to them cap in hand for a grant. Bunch of amateurs.

This is not a work experience program set up by an educational institute or large corporation. It reads as work, no mention of mentoring

It is described as a Pathway Program which implies learning and professional development.

Why don't the club offer the applicants   a MFC membership if selected it is the least they can do.

I really think you need to go back and read the club's response which was posted by DeeSpencer on the 1st page of this thread.

You've got it completely wrong and seem to be trying to bring in other arguments that aren't relevant at all. You can sit on the uninformed incorrect side of the fence all you want, but this was a pathway program designed to work in with participants required course hours, no exploitation at all and a very common practice that would be employed by all clubs, other professional teams and I know from personal experience, which I outlined before, universities with sports related courses will actively seek out these type of programs as well.

Absolute malicious rubbish. it is intended to get graduates, that is what the ad calls for, graduates. three to four  of them to work for free. It has no connection to an academic facility or professional program. It has been condemned and rightly so.

The original ad said "students or graduates", go back and look if you want. The club then clarified they were looking at those who needed that hours for their course as part of a pathway program. I'm sure there also happy for graduates who are trying to get a foot in the industry, similar to what happens at every other club and a lot of other professional sports (along with local clubs/sports as well). Not sure what part of that you think is malicious rubbish??

Drop off. i do not like your Trump type views on life. Pathways program. What pathway program? garbage. You are on ignore.

Haha, happy with that. The pathway program was put out there by the club, again read what they tweeted about that. Not sure the personal attack was warranted, when all I did was present facts, not my fault if you jump to conclusions

I totally agree it is inappropriate and surely a development Coach could not apply himself 100% on 25 hrs a week to as low as 10 hrs a week. Poor judgment by the Club

Pull your leg a bit, how many big companies with big money use interns? Law firms use interns, brokerage firms use interns, the ABC use interns

For those who do not understand what an Internship is and who the stakeholders are. MFC advert was not offering an internship, simply a volunteer arrangement with no link to an academic institute and no PATHWAY. If a little research and leg work had been done with an academic institute and a Work placement document executed all would have been in order.

ABC Internships

Internships at the ABC provide tertiary students who needing to complete a period of practical experience as part of their course requirements. Internships are an unpaid period of work experience arranged between the ABC, the educational institution and the student.

Don't forget about all those pesky hospitals and medical centre's who use student nurses, radiologists, physio's etc. Along with all the tech companies that also have student placements at them. The MFC came out to clarify their position on this and explain about the Pathway program but there are those that refuse to acknowledge that.

MFC does not have a Pathways program for volunteers.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
