The topic does not bother me . My issue is that it is not about football. Highlight it as much as you want does not make it about football. The way Nev has been playing he won't be a senior player for long and it is not because of an emoji. Making it about footy and giving it 5 pages is exactly what the troll aims to do. Giving a troll air is feeding it.

It IS about football! It is about the fact the indigenous footballers are still subjected to racist attacks and is no less worthy of discussion than any other football related topic.

We just saw Eddie Betts commenting on the recent attack against him, to the effect that he’s had enough and it’s affecting his enjoyment of the game. I would not be surprised if the fact Nev is not in tomorrow’s team has something to do with the attack on him and about him having time out to clear his own mind and have time with his family who would also have been affected.

This is a subject that should not be consigned to the General Discussion forum where it would sit gathering cobwebs. You don’t need to read it if you find it too confronting (the topic’s subject is made clear in the title and in no way ambiguous). Just move on to the next topic that interests you... easy!

Highly doubt it Hardtack.

If Nevs not playing because of that he really should "Pack it in."

It may not be the reason, but the coaches may still see it affecting his game. It amazes me how people like yourself and Mental just dismiss it as something along the lines of a “harden up princess” scenario.

Well, amazes me that an emoji gets posted and people like yourself think the sky's fallling.

And if the coaches didn't play me cause some fool posted an emoji on my twitter page I'd be having something to say to them too.
But I also highly doubt that is why he's not getting a game.
His form wasn't real flash last year and hasn't improved.

What else ya got?

He was nowhere near our worst defender in the last couple of games (Smith and Lever were much worse in round 2, yet are playing this week).

That aside, it’s not me who thinks the “sky is falling”, but it is myself and many others who are sick and tired of racism, and sick and tired of the likes of you dismissing it as if it’s a non issue.

Seriously, if the topic isn’t to your liking, don’t read it; simple!

Do you think Neville is a sook? Does he strike you as that sort of person?

From looking through the thread, it doesn't seem to me that Hardtack said Nev is missing the game because of what happened, seems more like he's saying it's possible something like that could effect his mindset this week, and in AFL footy, even more so at the moment, if you're off just a fraction then it has a big impact.

I know on all forms of social media, including a forum like this, we all often go with the short answers, because of impatience usually, but so many things are more complicated and nuanced than that and this is one of them. I don't pretend to relate to Nev's experiences of racism through his life, but you could imagine how frustration would build up over countless incidents regularly over the course of your life. To you, it's 'just an emoji', I can understand that's how you see it, but (I imagine) for Indigenous people it can be just another kick in the guts in a life of copping them. Eventually it's going to get to you, even if you're a tough as nails AFL footballer.

I'm not trying to say what has and hasn't happened, I don't know, but what I'm trying to say here is we need to try and imagine how this feels to the people it effects rather than relate it to how we would feel. Failing that, just listen to how Indigenous Aussies say it makes them feel. To me, that's the way forward, rather than projecting ourselves into situations we don't understand.

Well, when you twist the meaning of someone’s words, I guess that’s what you should expect. Although, I have to say that’s it’s rather ironic that you resort to the use of name calling to call out a name caller ?

How am I twisting your words?
Did you or did you not suggest Nev might be missing because someone posted an emoji?

Mate, it's really really poor when you keep trying to reduce this to 'an emoji'.

What response do you think you would get from Neville if you asked him that? Have a think about that and then think about if you should keep posting that on the internet when you wouldn't ask that in person.

I get all that.
But for eg ..... Should a player miss a game because there has been a death in the family instead of playing on with a black arm band.
I'm sure they might not be totally focussed.

And as my original post stated that Hardtack also didn't like.
You will never ever totally stamp out racism ......

Some might wanna live in fairyland and believe if they call out every percieved slight on the internet that they can.

Again you pull this kind of BS with "perceived slight".

You're really out of touch with this, you don't "get all that" at all. Not even close.

It was suggested that Nev may be missing because of said emoji. It is a reasonable question. By the same token re-publishing the same tweet is what you are complaining should not be done. Nev and May have been our most damaging defenders for about a year. In fact the Hogan - May trade closed our premiership window and the team needs a mini rebuild and a new coach.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
