I could not find a thread but this man demands our respect.

There are so many stories that are better told by others but perhaps the ultimate tribute is that he left the game in a better state than when he entered.

Few are his equal and we are lucky to have one such man in RDB.

Cherish them while they live and value their contribution thereafter.

J.K. was as articulate, intelligent and  successful as they come but i found him irritating . I remember him as a player in his last couple of years when he was a spoiling short ruckman who delighted in getting under the skin of our Big Bob Johnson . As a coach he admitted to particularly disliking us -  a legacy of so many defeats in the 1950's . Another annoying trait was when he appeared on World of Sport Coach's Corner he would often pour extravagant praise on well-defeated opposition .   My dad once described him as "flamboyantly modest" .

A colossus of the game. I am surprised he was still alive. Looked old when he won his first flag and seems to have been around forever. I thought he was much older than 91, more like 120.

With respect to your Dad. Surely one of the least flamoyant people ever in the game.

  • GAMEDAY: Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.

Melbourne’s much vaunted finishing power evaporated at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon, exposed for the third time in four years by its Essendon Gather Round hoodoo.
