AFL just sent an email offering 3 choices in relation to AFL memberships and the 2020 season.

No refund

Partial refund

Full refund

The sting is that in asking for a full refund your AFL membership will be cancelled.

The other two offers are reasonable and provide discounts for 2021. Fair enough but the cancellation of membership and back on the waiting list etc is perhaps a little too far.

Will be interesting to see what MFC and MCC come up with.

the mcc will probably introduce a mandatory levee to cover covid19 losses

Could you elect for the partial refund to go to the club?

Every little bit helps.

the partial refund includes an element of club support being maintained. It does not give the dollar difference if any to the Club between that option and the full membership component.

If you elect to continue as is  (full membership) you get a sweetener of "your choice of AFL member pack" up to a potential value of $250 (no idea what that really means) and 30% off my 2021 membership.

I think they are fair offers but the perhaps cancellation of membership is over the top.

  • Demonland changed the title to AFL Membership Refund

Seems fair, I assumed they would have to offer partial refunds to the level of an absentee membership which is fair. $170 to maintain your membership status for the year means $450 saved from a full membership and $300 from a silver membership

The email seems to indicate you'll still have access to games this year should criwds be allowed to return (unlikely I know) but I'm going to clarify that this would be at the same rate as usual (ie for finals would you get in week 1 for the booking fee of $20 or would you have to pay the guest pass fee of around $80+ booking fee?)

Its comes back to what is more important the cash or the marketing value of the membership?

Which one is worth more to the club, I would say the marketing/market reach for our sponsors and other corporate interests.

Happy to keep paying as I can.  For those that make the choice for a refund hopefully they can be retained as a member for maybe a $1 for marketing purposes etc.

I haven't heard anything from the MFC yet on membership options for 2020. Other clubs have emailed their members to let them know what options they have on the table (some have been more underhanded than others *cough* Adelaide *cough*) but haven't seen anything from MFC yet.

I'm not seeking a refund but was interested in what options the MFC had come up with. Some clubs have offered merchandise as comp including signed guernsey's and I just read on BigFooty Carlton have offered members a free GA membership for 2021 for someone who was not a member this year. Pretty clever way to grow the membership base.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
