A few years ago now, but one night back in 1996 we weren't overly affable.

I dare say there will be a fair few disgruntled members voicing their concerns if a new HQ hasn't been settled upon come the AGM @old dee

I did say most years DD. IMO there will be a " home" comment between now and the AGM. I might add that since 1996 they have been mostly tame affairs even when we were 5 minutes from extinction. In my view it is a weakness of the MFC that the members are so compliant.

And there can't be 18 Richmond's because of the talent pool.  As an example,  we couldn't possibly replicate Richmond with our current list.

But with an injection of real talent from the talent pool,  we can get there.  But again,  the talent pool dictates all.

We're in the mix but we've got a long way to go.  Systems can work well but only with proper levels of talent.  And some would argue that you build your system around the talent that you've got.

And then fine-tune as the talent levels increase.  Do what you do,  do well (and all that)

But do you think Richmond’s success is about the talent, or about how they are drilled and the system they employ?

I think it’s more the latter.

Exactly. They've got a very small amount of elite and are almost entirely propped up by a now instinctive system.

They've got elite talent (Reiwoldt,  Martin,  Cotchin,  Rance (pre injury) Lynch,  Houli,  Prestia,  Grimes(?) and then their 2nd tier is probably as good as our first tier players (based on our actual output this season)

If we played them 10 times in a row we might beat them once or twice but after that they'd beat us every time (if they were serious)

Prosperous systems are dependant on talent. In the workplace it can happen but only with qualified personnel.  Sport is no different.

As an example ... Neeld tried to bring in a system at our club but it was doomed to fail because we didn't have the skills to enact that system.  Whatever that system might have been (?) ... his comment of 'We will be the hardest team to play against' was the "Tell"

Now that Ben King has re-signed with GCS, effectively saying to Saints: save your chips I'm not joining you next year, it is one Big Fish they won't see at Moorabbin in a hurry.

The irony is sweet.  Saints get 'clever' and walk out on negotiations with Freo and split pick 6.  Ben King then shuts down the hype coming from saints' officials.  Saints clearly weren't talking with him as much as they thought.   Maybe talking to his parents but not to him or his manager.

The saints may have badly misjudged both the Hill and the King situation.  With Geelong now in the Hill frame saints may walk away with neither prospect.  Snookered themselves.

Their credibility isn't worth much atm.  Whatever happens they aren't smelling like roses any longer.

It matters little how many players nominate your club if you can’t get jack [censored] done during the trade period because you’re incompetent.

I will laugh so much if Hill falls over and he ends up with another club on 700K

Hawks will have 3 former number 1s whilst all in under injury clouds , Omera, Scully & Patton and not paying them crazy dollars & not giving the farm away either will more than likely play finals before the Saints & us!

Hawks payed plenty in draft assets for O'Meara and he is yet to show he can regain the pre injury turbo speed. Wingard cost them Burton and the pick Port used on Duursma who had a great rookie season.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
