Good chance we have a serious look at this kid with pick 3.

Potential father-son for Hawks, but could be they can't match our bid possibly, pending their other trades? (Not sure how that all works sometimes, as the rules seem to change every year).

Quick, hard at it kid who can win his own ball but also be effective outside the contest and going forward.

Anyone know anything more about the bid-matching etc in this scenario?

Hawks would have this in mind when doing trades. No way they wouldn't leave enough points for him. They get 20% discount on points required to match bid.

Yep, but they might not consider him as worth as much as what we do potentially.

Then they'd wait 2 years for his initial contract to run out and scoop him up.

Not with pick 3.

Why would that happen? It's not like he'd be going interstate. Plenty of sons of former players don't end up at their Dad's club.

Hawks are in great position to get exactly what we want from draft, ive read somewhere where list manager said they are keen on a quality small forward and with father and son pick looks like they will get a classy midfielder. Even if we do a split with GWS hawks will still have pick before us.

Pick 3 is well before the Hawks first pick...

Yes I know it’s also overs for any small forward and same for their father son( going only on what all draft prospects articles are saying)My point was more that with pick 11 and father son they are in a great position to get the 2 type of players we are after and if we do split pick they will prob have a crack at a small forward before us.

For sure, the only point I'm disagreeing on though is that I've heard talk we're considering him with pick 3. Could be a bolter just like Oliver was for us. Not saying it's a lock, just something I heard.

Absolutely zero chance we make a bid at 3, I think Hawthorn will use their pick 11 before he gets bid on.

Combine results are often overstated

Ah right I’m with you now. You think this would give us more of a reason to split pick? As if we add him to other top prospects we could surely pick up a good prospect anywhere in top 10?! Thoughts?

I would think if we actually are keen on him then we won't be splitting picks as then we'll definitely lose out to the Hawks. Splitting our pick for GWS first two picks still seems likely to me, but had just heard we're having a good look at Maginness with pick 3. Could be that we're weighing up the two options?

Without giving away the exact source, can you tell us roughly where they come?

Source within the club, within AFL, media, current player, online forum, website?

Adds to the veracity of "I've heard", which as you know could mean anything. Cheers.

Fair enough question. I try to not oversell things when I post this kinda stuff, but understand where you're coming from.

It's from just a mate who sometimes hears things, probably about a 60-70% strike rate so wouldn't call it a lock, which is why I'm putting in lots of "could be" and "potentially" into it. Has passed on some good info in the past, although admittedly usually about other clubs.

Isn't he an on baller?  We need another?

This could possibly make it interesting...

NO DISCOUNT FOR HAWKS ON PATTON CONTRACT

GWS list manager Jason McCartney says the Giants will not be paying for any portion of Jonathon Patton's salary if a trade to the Hawks eventuates. Hawthorn was able to bring in Tom Scully last year for a 2019 fourth-round pick, but the Giants will be looking to bring in a better selection than that for Patton. The Hawks hold picks 11, 30 and 50 in the first three rounds of the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.

I'm no expert on him, others may know more, but I think he's pretty quick and very good forward of centre. Both of which would be handy for us IMO.

If we do split our pick into the teens then maybe I could see a potential bid from us perhaps. Depends if we are that interested. Heard Graham Wright I think last week who spoke about Finn and he had huge wraps on him. Hawks rate him highly and would have got excited when they saw his last Finals game. Absolutely dominated!

Cannot see us bidding on him with pick 3 though.

Thanks mate.  Yeh i took a good look previously.  Exciting talent off that but looks can be deceiving on these reels sometimes.  Just thought you (or someone here) might have had a good look up close.

Not saying he's worth a pick 3 but if we happened to split the pick ... grab him around 10 to 15 or so if available.

Gee wiz, I know it's a highlights package and all, but this kid has some seriously good traits. Speed, awareness, vision, lovely kick too.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
