Dubbed 'Kid Charlemagne' by Wadda

Well that is where i got it from Macca...haha well done..

Well i think another few wickets here and thats the ball game and the Ashes. Theyre still 126 behind!

But you never know with this game....Woakes and Butler could bat on for a while and the wicket will settle down after lunch.

But wow...what a session 10-0 would you say Macca?

It's not a knockout but close to a TKO Wadda

In boxing terms it's probably a 10 - 5 but the scoring in boxing has always been kind to the vanquished.

I like the fighting qualities with the kid ... and it looks like his innings has inspired the bowlers.

Just 1 wicket at a time (work for 1) to gain the upper hand even more comprehensively.

Edit:  England 8 - 60 and staring down the barrel.

Only 1 English batsman in double figures so far........in fact only 4 in the match so far! Something like 16 -97 in 2 sessions and a bit. Cant really remember anything like it!

Dave Warner back in form and he alone could end this today (in virtual terms)

England 9 - 66

We have been ferocious Wadda.  Playing like winners.

Big Josh with a 5 fa!

The Ashes are ours mate.  The Aussies are men on a mission.

That was just sensational.

what do Oz need to score in the second innings

Lots!

We'll cash in now ... England are shell-shocked.  Warner needs to go after them and put them to sleep.

Edit:  So much for that wish.  Warner out.  Harris might take up the attack instead.

I've seen less dismissals in a t20 match played on a bunsen burner.

They're dropping like flies.

Well theyve only gotten over 300 once in this series so far. 400 is safe DJ but i cant see us getting 300 either, but there is plenty of time. I think Englands batting has lost it. Top order is shot to pieces and the way Pattinsons bowling, not to mention Lyon in the last innings...cant see them getting over 200. But i sure will be watching.

What an amazing test match. Hazlewood was unreal. Our batsmen will have to concentrate. If we make 250 then that will be a lead of just over 350. Be interested to see Lyon bowl in the second innings.

4-97 Everytime it looks like were home, we lose a wicket. 209 in front, we need 1 good partnership and we are there i think. England i think are still capable of getting 250, its not out of the question......but anything over that is a bit of an ask. Crucial hour coming up here.

27 wickets for 417 runs in 2 days, 2 sessions of which were lost to rain ! Its quite incredible to have a team chasing a fouth innings total with 3 full days to get it.

Did Archer do a hammy? 426? Was pretty ineffective on an ordinary wicket hey. Not sure why England were all smiling and joking when he walked off? We should get a lead around 320-330 from here. In a way i was hoping Smith would come back next game and hit Root over the boundary for 6 to win the Ashes, but hey we will take it.

The Urn should be returned to Sunbury where it belongs.

Watch out for some bat pads off Lyon in their 2nd innings.  Was getting extra good bounce in their first innings and the wicket is still lively.

Should have enough to win but one never knows. They can't bat as poorly again. Don't know the record at Leeds but the windies chased down 322 theere a couple of years ago. I would hate to see the poms better that.

270 max is my tip.

They are going to need one of their batsmen to get a 100 in order to challenge for victory.  Can't see it on this track with the way it's played so far.  1 wicket often changes things quite a bit when the wicket is assisting the bowlers.

The only doubt I have is if the wicket loses it's venom after lunch.  It's only the 3rd day and usually a wicket is often at it's best for batting on the 2nd & 3rd day.  Still,  359 is a tough total to reach

2-90 Well so far so good you would have to say by the Poms. About time Root put in a captains innings. The partnership (Root and Denly) would have to sat together for another 100 runs at least. I still cant see them getting past 250. 1 wkt and the collapse will be on.

The only thing they have on their side is time.

England get to 3-156 by stumps which was a stoic effort.  Still require another 203.

But credit it to them for refusing to yield.  Stokes is 2 off 50 balls!  As you stated Wadda,  1 wicket changes things but they've obviously come out with a plan to bat with time on their side.

Root is a fine player but we need to dislodge him all the same.  It isn't quite over yet and they are making us earn it.

I didn't believe that they'd only be 3 down by stumps and if they'd had got to 220+ (about 3 runs per over) by the close of play you'd be quite concerned.  But 359 is a tough ask.

The new ball is due in 8 overs and you'd expect 1 of the 3 quicks to therefore make a breakthrough.  Essential viewing once again tonight.

Well its certainly a turnaround Macca. They really copped it in the English press. Roy just proved hes a one day player and both he and Burns played rash shots. Roy will be dropped. Yep Root 66 is playing a Captains knock and if he saves them he will reinstate himself as Englands leader. Stokes is the one they have to remove. I think he could carry the innings.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
