185cm ish forward, so could fill the missing small forward role until Bedford or Chandler develop.  May have to learn our systems etc, but you would expect a fairly fast path when we have 5 players available for selection outside the 22 atm.

Please do not teach this kid our systems if we get him!!!!

It will end his career. Looks like a natural footballer to me and know how to play forward,

I would be all for Sam keeping his man bun:

✅ Diversity

✅ Future trade value

And extra protection from the inevitable ear massagings he'll receive standing underneath high bombs into the forward line from our midfielders

I think a small pressure forward is desperately needed.

We do have some injuries but I believe we have the running defender covered with Hibbo, Salem and Fritsch.

I think there is a perception out there that these mid season picks will be walk up starts in the senior team.  This is definitely not the case as I dare say out of the teams that do pick up a player, that you won’t see them play this year.

yeah we need a pressure fwd but I think we need flanking defenders more, if we get one more injury back there we will be in even more strife than we are at the moment, so there's a good chance the new recruit would get a game, as we don't have a lot of other options. we can send Hunt back again but then you're robbing the forward line of another pressure option and he's not a good defender anyway.

of our defensive players Lewis is on his last legs. Jetta isn't getting any younger either and is banged up regularly and you can write him off for most of this year. Hibberds form's been up and down, and he also gets banged up with injuries more often than he used to. Fritsch isn't a defenders A hole. Wagner is a limited footballer. and Salem would be better suited pinpointing passes into our fwd line, if we only had more backmen to replace him with. and all of those guys are about as fast as turtles, except Hibberd, who breaks the occasional line. we need to find some new defenders, even for depth this year as the kids aren't ready.

Whilst I’m no man bun apologist (my younger brother’s man bun makes me wish I was Edward Scissorhands), I’d even be happy if he wears his p3n1s as a sword belt at this stage as long as he creates some swashbuckling goals

This is why I keep banging on about playing Sparrow back.

He's got some leg speed, good in the air, tackles hard and is strong over the ball.

Kicking is a bit hit and miss at the moment but biggest problem for me is he doesn't find enough ball as a mid.

They should run him in defence at Casey as he is the only one that looks like he could be a replacement for Jetta.

Jetta didn't find a lot of ball as a forward/mid but was reinvented in defence.

Sparrow might find it easier with the ball coming at him and he could turn out a quicker version of Nev...

Jordon is another at Casey now starting to find his feet at that level, still very young and developing.

A good kick and with more time he could step up. A bit early for him yet but a spot will open for a good kick from the back half...

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
