Max 'officially' the best in the AFL

Featured Replies

So Max is now officially rated the number 1 player in the game by AFL stats - https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-05-06/danger-tumbles-so-whos-the-new-no1-in-player-ratings

He is the first non-midfielder to be ranked no.1. I'm sure there's lots of debate about what this means (if anything) or how worthwhile the ranking system is, but well done Max!

So why can't he be ?

Ask most clubs that if they had a Ruckman as good as Gawn would they have him?

Thank God that he is with us.   Our No 1  Player in the AFL.

Collingwood wouldn't swap Grundy.

So ruckmen are not midfielders? But they are followers!

He hasn't been in his best form, but he's been good for the most part this season; the bar he and Grundy set last year is ridiculously high.

I think a lot of people haven't gotten over the round one beating he copped by Port Adelaide.

He was excellent on the weekend.

Max isn't the best player in the league...  and he isn't up to last years backend of 2018 season form Yet...  but he's improved on his early season form, the last 2 weeks.

He still not hitting enough targets at the moment with his taps, yet...   Last year he was virtually palming the ball to team-mates.

He still doesn't take enough marks around the ground.    IMO, Max... could be taking 10 or more marks per-game.

Max is a champion player who rivals Dean Cox and Simon Madden as the best ruckman of the past thirty years.  He is a better pure ruck than Grundy and his form this year has been very good - not as good thus far as last season but with 2/3 of the season still to play he is building well.  He was brilliant on the weekend against probably the third best ruckman in the competition.

Stuff Collingwood. They can keep him. Who cares about them? Certainly not me. I hope they will always be runner ups, even if they claim to have the best ruckman in the AFL. It means nothing if you lose Grand Finals.
