What happens from now to the end of the season will be very important to the future of the MFC. I don't believe that we can rely on players return from injury as an antidote to our problems. It is not bad luck we are in this position. We don't have minor problems or issues to fix.

The club has a hell of a lot of work to do to become successful. The improvement of 2018 has been smashed and destroyed.  It feels like we have taken two or three steps back rather than one. Our window of opportunity for finals success has suddenly become very  narrow. 

In the space of 6 weeks, we have regressed to the losing culture of the past. The players look beaten. Even in the first quarter of the game against the Tigers, we looked like a poor side playing well compared to the Tigers, who looked like a good side that could not find its rhythm. 

We can only hope that the club has the character, culture and professionalism to learn from its mistakes and can address the systemic problems evident this season.

     

 

The bit that makes me really angry is how obvious it is that the AFL want a faster, less contact, less congestion, higher scoring game.

It's so f@#$%ing obvious yet our fd has not recruited or adjusted to suit.

Flat footed like half our side.

Whilst you hope...I come to terms with the reality.

You re right...our dilemma is systemic.

I've said..to much derision for some time...our losses are by design.  Most won't discern between design and desire though.

The Age reporting that Misson presented to the board before the season and warned of the massive discrepancy between pre-season 2017/18 as opposed to 18/19.

I smell self preservation...not just by Misson

"In his presentation, Misson showed that the Demons had 39 players complete a total of 33 training sessions each in the pre-season prior to the successful 2018 season, when they made the finals for the first time in 12 years and stormed in to the preliminary final.

This year, in Misson’s telling, there were just 25 players completing a total of 22 sessions each – a massive drop partly explained by high number of players who had post-season surgery.

But the lack of training sessions was also due to the Demons, as a preliminary finalist, finishing 2018 later and the longer break that their players get under the collective bargaining agreement deal with the AFL Players' Association."

But Geelong, GWS, Richmond and Collingwood all finished 2018 later and are entrenched in the top eight in 2019. Hawthorn and West Coast after six rounds sit just outside it. All of those clubs have injury issues to juggle as well. 

What a pox excuse by Misson. It’s musical chairs time at the MFC and the finger pointing has begun!

Looks like some of the suggestions from this thread are starting to take place. Good to see action taken on Rooke Misson and McCartney.
