It's a nice read, I'm interested in the author's take on Oscar Baker - as the only 'inside news' I get is from Demonland - and not sure where he sits....

I like to think that the whole world knows that we are a genuine contender for the premiership and why not. l  am proud of our boys at the way they tackled the season in 2018 and the commitment they are providing preseason on the training track in 2019.  The football pundits will be looking on with interest and will be following our every move and this time  IMO we will be ready to deliver.                                                                                                                          Its time!  The 1st to 4th prediction is about right as we have recruited  well to improve on that.  55 years has being long time coming.

We have recruited well, imo.

We are only raw, imo... with our speedy running players.   We have some,  but the question marks are still alive, and active.

He's not a bad pick for a smokie selection to come in and give us something fresh. He was building nicely in the VFL and it was probably only concerns he didn't have the tank to run out games that stopped him getting a debut.

Unfortunately instead of building his fitness and getting a chance he tore his hammy a couple of times and has been in the rehab group ever since.

Not easy to compare players from different positions but I'm not against the idea that we need at least one of either Hunt, Garlett or Baker to give us some genuine line breaking pace. It's really hard to score against good teams and 12 goals wins most finals. Having a player who can create something is important.

I hope the Ninja makes it this year after such rotten luck with the hammy. He is very much an improving asset with real pace.

Great write up, fair and balanced.

Hope he is right about Oscar Baker.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
