My partner and I are coming down this weekend for the Saints game.
My Mum who is 75 is travelling in from East Gippsland on the day to join us at the G.
I haven't been to the footy with her since Jeff Farmer single handedly destroyed the pies on Queens Birthday. Good times...so long ago........

I've been an interstate / armchair member for years and years, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to get some sort of decent upgrade / seats where I can keep Mum pretty comfortable and out of the breeze and the cold.

I don't think she'll see too many more live games, so it would be great if I could line up a good spot for her and maybe she'll bring some luck for another win!

Garlett for nine in a half???

Any help and guidance would be appreciated. Cheers, Brownie

Maybe email the club or see if there’s any functions on/corporate box tickets if you want to pay a bit more? May be warmer. It’s bloody cold atm for sure. Sorry I can’t help but others may have better ideas

Find an undercover seat in the stands, wear multiple layers and bring hats, scarves, gloves and warm blankets for your lap. With these precautions, if mum is from East Gippsland, she will be warm and cosy.

Of course, if we are leading and playing well, you will not feel the cold and then none of these precautions will be necessary.

If you can get an upgrade into level 2 of the southern stand it is a bit more enclosed and you can wrap up away from the breeze.   Technically its premium members guest passes but they may let you buy them given your reason and the lowish expected crowd.

For a start you must avoid the northern side of the ground. The southern side catches the winter sun whilst in contrast the northern side of the ground is shaded all winter and the concrete there is freezing. Avoid!

Agree with all of the above. Also take along a blanket for your mum to sit on. My backside always gets so cold on those seats.

Despite my mum being a Dees supporter all of her life she only got to see her first game a year before she passed away.

Hope your mum has a great day.

Farmer didn't destroy the Pies on Queens Birthday. He destroyed them on the Saturday.

Email the club. Find someone in membership services, maybe Katrina Robb. Tell them how far your mum is travelling and she may not get to another game. If you are a member,  they may very well look after you all. Good luck!

Yo TB, I am pretty sure Armchair gets you 1 x MCG entry so you're sorted - you need to email ahead to organise.

Not sure what to do for B, but I am sure they can accommodate.

Spin a tail of woe and sadness, replete with fears of your dear old mum catching cold in her bones, and see if you can't snaffle an upgrade innit.

Have fun, I'll get more deck done for our wet the deck sesh! (Forrrreee!)

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
