So this probably means Garlett won't be playing in the VFL.

I was at that game, and I still can't even believe a smother caused that kind of injury. It was crazy.

I was at the game too, but I wasn't at the Lockett end, I was behind the opposite goals. Couldn't believe it...

I only really remember the tail end of Wrecker's career, but Jetta has him covered handily based on my memory at least. Whelan did it for far longer, and actually played finals too (something I think we all hope Jetta will be able to rectify before long).

Had a chat to nev about wrecker, said that wheels was his biggest role model at the club, and wheels taught him how to be a  professional footballer.

Lucky he hadn’t pulled a calf ?

you've put me off ma coffee !

I think it was around 2005 or 2006 first round against St Kilda and I was sitting with 2 Saints mates and 20 minutes in Wrecker takes out Del Santo with the best hip and shoulder I have ever seen. The noise of the impact was extraordinary to hear and to see as well. Del Santo was stretchered off, as my Saints friends said 20 minutes into the season and he is stuffed!

But Wrecker had injured his neck and left the field some time later and missed a few weeks. So it evened out.

Del Santo’s season was stuffed

Wrecker missed a few weeks.

We lost out big time

Unfortunately after being laid out, Hird then pulled himself back together and through sheer force of will played a major part of getting his team over the line against us that day.

That was back in a time when I had respect for him and wished we had a player like him. He had it all....

And he has still, it appears, had it all and then some ?

Looks like one of those has had his nose out of joint a good few times.

As in we all know who you are but have never seen that guy before.

So now obviously I need to explain we actually don't know who you are and we all know who he is. That is a common home that apparently hasn't reached your universe. No harm. Good to seen the pic.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Brisbane

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

Melbourne wrapped up the AFLW home and away season with a hard-fought 14-point win over Geelong at Kardinia Park. The result secured second place on the ladder with a 9–3 record and a home qualifying final against the Brisbane Lions next week.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
