Ridiculous spot. and i agree 100% they should have a store at the g and Fed square. part of the rationale for re branding as Melbourne was to become an iconic brand. Pretty hard to achieve if tourist and locals can't buy the products.

I don't mind buying stuff online but only if know the sizing and how it looks on. I was going to buy gear at XMAS time and went to go the Demon Shop but abandoned it as there is zero places to park. Stupid

seems to all have died a death. From the teasing of some very interesting marketing to ........to............( insert sound of crickets )

Yes cobwebs don't make much noise

Youd think youd not only have a "Melbourne" shop in cbd...but at AAMI . Buy a jumper get players to sign at training etc.

What century are our marketing ideas stuck in ?

Wasted opportunity abounds

I was going to do the same thing but no parking out me off so I bought online and guessed sizes. Came out ok but does out people off.

Binny there is parking at Fed it is $$$ if you are just making that trip. It is a tough one as I'm sure the club has and constantly looks at having better visible/access to a shop but costs wouldn't stack up.

That's probably true but they don't need to open a new store. They just need to get products in gift stores, airport, Southern Cross Railway Station, clothing shops in the CBD, Flinders street etc etc

binman I have a bit of experience dealing with large corporation / Retailers.

I know the AFL have deals with certain retailers that restricts where AFL merchandise can be sold.

The MFC cannot just sell their gear to any retailer/ location that takes their fancy.

You may even find they are restricted in where they can locate an MFC store ( eg not near an authorised AFL retailer ).

Yes the MCG site is far from ideal however it is not as easy as saying "Oh lets have one at Southern cross station".

That is not how the deal with AFL approved merchandise works.

This maybe but I would argue it's not unilateral. Ive seen other clubs merchandise sold where ours isnt.

Timefor a big rethink. Its our brand.

bb My experience with these deals is that the Retailers do not always have to stock the entire range.

eg, a store in western Sydney would not have to stock MFC gear or a store might be allowed to stock a few club's gear close their perceived base.

You then have the problem where individual store might decide there is no market for cetain clubs so they make the decision not to stock certain clubs. Believe me I have experience at getting all Stores in large chains to stock the "agreed range".

Can the MFC improve ? my guess is yes but IMO the biggest improvement will come from being a force in the competition.

The punters like wearing the gear of winners, only club nutters like Demonland members wear the gear when the team is poor.

IMO it comes back to winning more games do that and the sales will increase exponentially.

OD....i have seen stores with gws and freo shlt....no mfc.....in Melb. We can't pong as much as they do surely

Generally try and avoid wearing any Mfc branding. Hangover from schooldays - if you weren't Richmond or Carlton you were a loser.

Wear discrete MCC Tie on Boxing Day maybe.

Sat through 88 final at Waverley with jeans and work issued yellow rain jacket -  look like Eagles fan. I'm on TV when Garry kicks the sealer!

witnessed 186 at Kardinia Park Geelong members wearing jeans, white shirt, navy Country Road blazer - so blended in with Cat fans. Hide rage/disappointment/humiliation.

If im onshore wave the flag, I mean scarf, at Offshore Bar in Vung Tau if we are broadcast.

Might be that the mfc sold out from the original allocation and the person in charge at that store has little interest in restocking a low level sales item. That assumes they can order more, sometimes there is no opportunity to re order. They get a season allocation and that is it.

There was Tigers Blues Filth Aints EssScum stc. All variously stocked..giants yez dockers yez.. Hawkers, kitties, pups...yep; actually no Suns cttoi. If Dees had been stocked there would have been something left. Ive noted this on number of occasions, various stores.

Just saying. Id be bewildered if we weren't able to sell as we see fit. What a retail store does another thing .

expect t see afl stores running out of mfc gear (those that bother) early this year,. with replacement stock on too long a lead time to be useful

As I said early dc that is probably controlled by the AFL and the deal with the store.

eg. they agree on an allocation based on past sales and perhaps a factor for a improvement by a team the previous year.

You can be sure that after the dogs won the 16 flag there will be more stock allocated in 2017 for Dogs gear.

The biggest problem is the MFC would have a poor sales record stretching back over the last decade.

Retailers would rather run out of stock early than be left with unsaleable stock.

The MFC just have to win more and often over the next few years. The AFL sales team would be way more interested in selling the AFL package than individual teams. They would not really care a lot if there are a few lost MFC sales at present. The negotiation would go alone the lines of AFL: look we think the MFC will win more games this year and you need to have more MFC stock. Retailer: you have been telling me that for five years and I have 15 store with 50% of their allocation from last year unsold, same as last year I think, now how many more dogs jumpers do you think we will need. AFL: probably 50% more than last year and I think the pies sold out in a few stores last year how about 10% more. Retailer: yes even if we are wrong they will be gone by the time the 2018 gear comes in. Ok that is  a 20% overall increase in numbers lets get the orders arranged. AFL: sounds good.

that's a lot of words, od, just to say you agree with me

there will be a bigger demand for dee's stuff this year, and they will run out sooner, just normal afl forward planning

That is not true dc see my addition to the above. it is always going to be an agreement between the AFL and retailers. The AFL cannot just decree to the stores what will happen. It is a negotiation. You underestimate the Retailers power in these things.

OD..what a store does with AFL mech may be governed..what MFC does ? It's our stuff

No it's not, all designs have to be approved by the AFL, that is why you end up with the same design of off-field apparel in each team's colours, didn't you listen to Peter Jackson's explanation of the clash jumper as well, AFL wants it to majority white, so it is majority white

But it aint bb. Agreement with the AFL is that they control all sales. The MFC agreement with the AFL ( All AFL clubs ) is that they ( the AFL) control all sales of AFL gear to retailers/ fans outside of the clubs own fan site and internet direct to the clubs sales. A club just cannot set up a retail outlet wherever  it feels the need. The agreement the AFL has with retailers gives  them some exclusivity in the case of location of the stores.

eg If there is a " Rebel" store in Richmond the RFC cannot set up a Tigers store in bridge road.

Look I am not trying be an apologist for the AFL or Retailers. I am just trying to explain the way these things work.

DC have to disagree with that rationale, look at Freo, they were near to flag favs at the start of 16, how much gear do you think stores were left with?

Even playing finals this year does not guarantee a larger supporter base, continued success over a long period of time builds confidence in your supporters and gets them wanting to be seen in public wearing your merch.

anyway........expect this year to be harder to source mfc afl-approved gear.......for what ever reasons

we are going places.........and demand will rise......be prepared to be disappointed

if the case we are rank amateurs in business. You NEVER forfeit your right to YOUR product..Ask the likes of Manchester  Real... Yankees etc.

You allow a licencee a right to business but not SOLE discretion.

Very arze about.

Correct dc if the Dees play as well as we expect there will be some shortages in some areas.

How many MFC items do you think the MFC would sell without the AFL?

I suggest way less than the current numbers. If not for the power of the AFL the retailers would stock six to eight teams and the rest could go jump.

The MFC has items stocked because the AFL say you have to stock all clubs or none.

In this case the MFC benefits from having the AFL control things other wise the retailers would rule the roost.

I have dealt with these people for 40 years they understand only one thing and that is power. You only get their cooperation by having a far bit yourself. They would not give the MFC an appointment.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
