......was i on him........nope.

Brad Rawiller was the jockey we're referencing Wadda.

He gave us the heads-up but I'm not sure any of the punters followed up.  Some bookies might have even offered 150-1.

Your quintessential "Turn up for the Books"

Jamie is very good especially with the middle distance races or further.  She's a real horsewoman as opposed to just being a jockey. Like Bowman,  Oliver,  Walker et al.

Jamie is riding Gatting in the Underwood and if the race is a truly run affair Gatting can win again.  Trap for Fools,  Gailo Chop & Homesman will probably ensure that the speed will be on so Jamie may well get another Group 1.

And I'm on your choice of 'Brave Song' in the Testa Rossa Stakes (R8)  It's first up form is excellent and it should be flying home.

Thats why i selected him. I reckon he will be right up there........and good odds.

Im also on Parsifal with Jamie Kah on board..

From prep to prep some horses are just never the same.  Brave Song might have needed the run or perhaps Caulfield didn't suit first up.

And then we have the Black Heart Bart,  Harlem & Gatting stories.  Need a crystal ball sometimes!

The quaddie could pay anything today.  Especially if a roughie gets up in the last.

Sure was a tough day at the office........That Harbour Views in the last was Hutchies BB. Its bred to get to 2000. It just played with them. Could be anything.

Too short to back it today though Wadda.  Strange having a BM78 to finish the meeting but you're right about Harbour Views.  A Blackbooker.

I did well yesterday and was playing with house money today.  No collects though!  The punt giveth and the punt taketh away.  That's racing

I much prefer it when Melb & Syd are racing on the same day though.  For whatever reason I don't like waiting around half an hour for the next race.  Superstition kicks in.  I'm a creature of habit!!

The Jockey on Harlem (Dwayne Dunn) mentioned that the horse is nearly back to its best and is looking for 2000m.

Was only beaten 3 lengths today and will probably be big odds again the next time it runs.  Caulfield Stakes next up?  (Oct 12th 2000m WFA $1Million)

It started at 70-1 today and the WFA races don't have the crack fields that they once did.

Might be better off looking at some value runners in these middle distance Group 1's.  In the 'Exotics' boxed perhaps.  Or just each-way.

Cheers for the updates fellas, managed to watch a couple of the races on the phone. Only the one bet today and it was on Rox The Castle. Not all was lost though, was given a bonus bet for running second, it’s going on Monkey.

Black Heart Bart hey, the camera panned to a couple of relaxed people ( connections I’m guessing) in the stands immediately after the race and they both just glanced at each other with what looked like a bit of a “Did we just win the race?”, or maybe they were quietly confident of a good showing and it was some kind of cheeky grin.

Without taking anything away from the winner in the Underwood I thought Homesman was very good after enduring a 3 wide trip for the majority.

Took Harbour Views in a trifecta, managed to be on Prophets Thumb, Alligator Blood and Acting.

Acting was a good collect, been on it a few times it’s last few runs.

I actually looked at Black Heart Bart, but stuck with Hartnell who has ran 4th last few after a third. I’ll stay true cos stuff me if I’m not on it when it finally wins ?

Some nice selections there Gorgoroth. Well done.

Feel free to join in the fun each week and select your best bet across the Spring. We dont have any rules, but would prefer the bets in on Friday night, so people have a chance to put them on. I usually post them up every week on a Friday night. You may select 1 runner from any race over the weekend and it can be for a Win or a Place.

Thats interesting Macca and thanks. I do like to note these things. (hopefully i will pay attention)  But seriously have a look at the first four runners in the Underwood..... 9 years old, 6 years old, 9 years old and 9 years old. Is it Dads Army flying the flag this year? Whats going on...

Are the international raiders going to come and kick our rear quarters when they get here? Im not sure if they are in what races coming up....need to keep watch vigilantly......

Avilius will be in Melbourne for the Cox Plate but the Turnbull St,  Caulfield Stakes,  Craven Pl & the McKinnon St will see similar fields to what we saw today.  Avilius might also run in the Turnbull whilst a few of the overseas horses might contest the McKinnon.

The Melbourne Cup will have any number of overseas representation and the Caulfield Cup might see 5 - 8 from overseas.  Box 6 in both cups in a trifecta or a F4 might be the go but who knows?  It's a bit of a hit and hope these days Wadda.  4/7/7 or 4/7/7/7 in the Tri or F4 might be my preference.

So races like The Caulfield Stakes will be locals only? Ok guess some of the raiders will do the odd warm up race.....although i know a lot of them just come for the main races......then some contest later races if they dont do any good...

Well Lloyd Williams targeted the McKinnon with Latrobe last year but they come over too late to contest the races in the early part of the Spring.  The McKinnon is worth $2Miilion now so we'll probably see more overseas represention in that race.  As well as the Cox Plate.

But from the Cox Plate onwards the distance races from 2000m upwards will be filled with overseas horses.  The Moonee Valley Cup,  Bendigo Cup & the Geelong Cup included.  Maybe even the Herbert Power on Guineas day

And I welcome the overseas contingent.  We don't produce stayers in this country anymore and without the overseas horses our longer distance races would be won by inferior local horses.  Hopefully that changes in the future but since the passing of Zabeel,  there have not been any real replacements in terms of sires that can produce good stayers.

Australian investors might have to buy big from overseas studs.  Not sure how that is done though as the systems overseas are set up very well (with regards to producing stayers)

The wonder mare Winx covered up the lack of depth we have with horses that can run well over the mile and further.  Avilius is one of the next best but that horse is originally from overseas anyway.  Mystic Journey will probably get the mile and a quarter but that would probably be it.

Great to have you on board Gorg

And we've got 3 of the 4 best bets (so far) being for the place ... my mind is ticking over again.  Another idea forthcoming? ha ha.

But seriously,  backing the horse for the place does give you 3 chances in a race.  It's probably a smarter way of putting together a multi and if we've got 5 participants,  even a $1.50 chance adds 50% to the dividend as the final leg.

And it's all about getting the collect.

Saturday preview to follow

Some great racing coming up on Saturday both at Randwick & Flemington

  • At Flemington Santa Ana Lane & Sunlight go at each other in the Gilgai Stakes - Santa Ana Lane will no doubt swoop late but will the horse catch Sunlight?
  • In the Turnbull Stakes Mystic Journey,  Mr Quickie & maybe Rostropovich should fight out the finish.  Hartnell will no doubt be thereabouts
  • And the winner of The Bart Cummings is ballot exempt for the Melbourne Cup.  Wolfe,  Surprise Baby & King Of Leogrance could easily fill out the first 3 placegetters
  • Up at Randwick an old favourite of ADATR in Osborne Bulls is running in the Premiere Stakes Lets see if we can boot home Wadda's tip.
  • The Epsom Hcp looks a great race.  There are a stack of lightweight chances including Kolding & Rock but Te Akau Shark & Dreamforce can get into the finish.
  • And in The Metropolitan it's a wide open affair with any number of chances.  The winner might end up gaining entry to the Caulfield Cup and/or the Melbourne Cup in terms of qualifying.  It's not a ballot exempt race but perhaps it should be or will be down the track (if RV & RNSW can call a truce and start co-operating with each other)

Happy punting folks!

I’ve been on Hartnell last 4 races and will be again, cos if it salutes ill be peeved I wasn’t on it. Even at $2 EW ?

'Enticing Star' has been retired immediately and will not run in the Everest.  Must be something wrong with the horse but regardless,  the mare will now go to the breeding barn.

It was Chris Waller's slot so that probably now opens the door for Nature Strip.

We've gone from the 3 Amigo's to the  Infamous 5.  Or something like that.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
