A Day at the Races

It’s the second  time in a week that The Bostonian has been scratched. Had a shocking gate last week too.  When the rail is out at Doomben it makes it even more difficult for those drawn wide. Still, keep an eye out for it.

Dane Thunder similarly drew wide but usually not an issue at Sandown. That mail came from somebody very closely connected to the horse too.

Yeah, Dafeenah comes via a very reliable source. Was $9 in this mornings (Brisbane) paper. Tongue tie on may be a key.

My best bet for the weekend ...

Randwick Race 6  No.3  Live and Free  $2.50

Not exactly each-way odds but the horse is in fine form and should be getting into the finish with Brenton Avdulla on board.  It's the best bet of a few of the Sydney Sky Racing pundits as well.

You’re spot on Macca, Doomben is shaping up as a really good day for racing. I had a look at the whole card a short time ago and there are some terrific races.

I have a selection for the McKell Cup. I’m going for a value runner in No.5 Lovani.

Edit: Did I go too early? Wadda hasn’t declared his pick yet I see.

Lovani has been scratched so you'll need to have another go DZ

Number 6 Naval Warfare. It was my second pick for the win so it’s worked out in the end.

Lovani lining up at Doomben in race 2. Bit of a nibble for it this morning. Likes to race on the pace too which is an advantage at Doomben today.

Fine morning here in Brisbane although a few clouds building in the south. Might cop a shower or two later this morning but shouldn’t have any bearing on track conditions. The Gold Coast may cop a bit of rain though.

Ok sorry about the late pick, but i wanted to cover all bases. Its a 2 horse race between Andaz and Fifty Stars. Andaz is the better value and the quinella may in fact be the better bet. Good luck fellas.

Best Bets:

Doomben Race 5 No.3 Zousain $3.10

Randwick Race 6  No.3  Live and Free  $2.50

Sandown Race 9 No. Andaz $5.50

$42.62 for your dollar.

Funny that, I just received a text containing a few tips for the day and Andaz was one of them.

Out of Sebring and Black Caviar, that would have been a cheap exercise ?. Ran on well late after slightly missing the start.

I’m not huge on the punt but do get the odd bit of mail which is occasionally profitable. Tomorrow I have these:

Doomben R2 - 11 Heavenly Thought

Where have you been mate?? Straight off the bat. $12 winner, well done.

Yes thats ok Macca, was going to do that anyway. I like our picks in both.

EDIT: They just said theyre having track problems at Doomben. May have to move the rail out in the back straight and are rolling the track. Last race may be cancelled.

Was just about to ring State Emergency Services Binman, to see if they could rescue you from whatever disaster you were facing...! Nice one, good selections as usual.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
