Not sure this is any conciliation mono but you are not alone.

After Sundays loss it became very obvious to me that I had gifted a number of players with more ability than they have.

I am trying to remind myself that we are still coming from a lone way back and still have a number of players who will not take us above the bottom six.

I am clinging desperately to this theory but I am rapidly running out of finger nails.

 

 

We should win 10. If we don't beat CG and Carlton at home, then really it just shows that we haven't mentally improved enough.

Statistically we are miles ahead of last year, and we have shown a lot of promise at times this season, but we have to start beating teams that are at our level or below us on a very regular basis, since we can't beat anyone better than us at the moment.

Anything less than 10 wins to me is a failure.

Agree with most of that Jaded. I am still confident we can beat those two.

However that is it for me I cannot see a win in any of the other games so 9 wins and only one win against a top eight team in round two.

 

9 wins was my pass mark at the start of the year and after the Essendon loss i had doubts we may even achieve that.

The loss streak to the WCE in Perth must be as long as the saints record and they are a better side than the Saints.

Mentally this team has lost this game before they get on the plane.

There would not be one  player at the MFC that in their hearts believes they can win this game any more than the thought they could last weekend.

Well, I definitely won't be tipping us, but we're a sneaky chance. West Coast aren't much good and we've bounced back from poor performances in the past e.g. Rnd 3 this year.

We beat Geelong in Geelong last year, Adelaide in Adelaide the year before. Also beat two finals teams last year in the Doggies and Tigers. And we've beaten GWS this year. I'm finding it quite funny watching the 'we never take any scalps' brigade pretending that things didn't happen :).

Four wins in three years is hardly convincing Ricky.

We have developed from a VFL team in 2013 into a bottom six team in 2016 

But we still have a long way to go.

Ok, so I've decided to cheat my employer and destroy this 'we don't beat anyone good' garbage once and for all.

- Under Roos, 27.78% of the victories we've had have been against teams that played in the finals (2/4 in 2014, 2/7 in 2015, 1/7 in 2016). I challenge you to find a team that has been as poor as us at any time in football history that has had OVER A QUARTER of its wins against finals teams. That doesn't include our best win in a decade against Geelong at Geelong! And that's slipped this year - it was 36.36% at the start of the season!

- Under Roos, 55.56% of our wins have been against teams above us on the ladder (4/4 in 2014, 5/7 in 2015, 1/7 in 2016). How can anyone say we only beat the poor teams when OVER HALF of our victories are against teams that are above us! Once again, that has slipped this year. It was a whopping 81.82% at the start of the year. Last year we only won 2 of the 6 games against teams below us.

So really, when people say we don't beat anyone good, they really mean "we haven't beaten anyone good this season except for the time that we did".

If you wish to continue to believe that 2 + 2 = 5 then that is your prerogative and I apologise sincerely for my pesky "facts" and "things that happened in real life".

When you are finishing in the bottom couple Ricky any wins you have tend to be above you.

This year we have beaten one team above us.

we have won 7 from 16 one team in the eight. the other 6 are teams from 11th down.

Now there is a couple of facts.

And when you improve and move up the ladder, you tend to get more wins against teams that are below you

Just my point Ricky you can use statts to say anything you want if you try hard enough.

IMO we are still a long way off being a top eight side. With changes at the end of the year to our list and some luck with our kids we may be able to achieve that in 2018 or 19. Right now we are a 11th or 12th side.

IMO our results show that

We're on the improve but we're not a good side yet ... we'll need to have at least 12 players who can all play consistently well on a regular basis for that to happen (injuries aside) 

Those who are very good players include ...  Gawn,  Vince,  N Jones,  Viney,  Hogan,  Watts (just),  T-Mac (just)

Close but still a little inconsistent ... Jetta,  Garlett,  Tyson

Should or could get there ... Petracca,  Brayshaw,  Salem,  Oliver.  Hunt.

After that it gets hard to find a player who will be or could be a consistently very good footballer (B grade or better)  There are a number of other players with it all in front of them.  Weideman & Hulett are a ways off and Harmes is a chance.

The best sides often have 13-15 very good footballers who all play well most weeks.  The super teams often have up to 18 very good players.  We just haven't got enough very good players right now.

In 2012/13 it was hard to find 3 very good players in each of those years.  Again, we've come a long way and should end up on at least 9 wins.  There is certainly room for improvement but the list does have a fair bit of upside. 

The off-season might bring the club another couple of very good players - we'll need them as not all of the above names can be relied upon to make it to the status of 'very good player'
