Trying to figure out why i'm being forced to watch the last quarter of a greece v serbia water polo match when the australian womens beach volleyball ball team are currently playing?

I have the 7 app, however 6min later it's still buffering.

Pathetic coverage by channel 7, but should i be suprised?

Australian Women Rugby 7's team defeat Canada 17-5 to secure a medal. Just a question now of whether it will be gold or silver?

As a nation we're yet to win a silver medal at these games yet. Lets hope it stays that way a little longer!

In other team sports over night the news hasn't been as good. The Hockeyroos lost their 2nd match to start the tournament 1-2 to USA which was another game they'd of expected to win.

While our beach volleyball team of Laird & De Solar also had their 2nd loss from 2 games, loosing in three sets to the Swiss despite having 4 match points in the third set. Was a very good match to watch. They'll need to win their final group match now if they're to progress to the Round of 16.

Boomers run out 15 point winners over Serbia 95-80 outscoring the Serbians 33-17 in the final term.

Brilliant effort by the Boomers and Matthew Dellavedova in particular.

Things may be a little tougher for them in their next match v The Dream Team however.

A great performance after the Kiwis had them on the back foot for the first 6 minutes.

We were fortunate with the first try, but fortunately we won by a converted try and we didn't convert the first try so we'd of won anyway. Also doubt we'd of given up that final try if we didn't have the buffer we did at the time.

Feel sorry for the Kiwis, in fact I always feel for the silver medalists in team events as they're always coming off a loss compared to the bronze & gold medalists.

The Australian Olympic team tracking a lot better these games then 4 years ago Macca!

No medals in the pool tonight, but in better news the Australian Womens Beach Volleyball team of Clancy & Bawden won their 2nd match securing their passage to the Round of 16. Next match will just determine their positioning in that stage.

Bit disappointing to not at least pick up a medal or 2 in the swimming this morning but it's tough competition.

If it was easy we'd win 20+ gold medals every Olympics.  We're tracking very well, all things considered.

Well placed in the individual & team eventing in the equestrian  ... leading in both apparently with the show jumping to come tonight (11pm)

Our women’s Rugby Sevens team wasn’t made up of born footy players

Quote

What made the triumph more remarkable was the fact so few of our girls had a history of playing rugby sevens.

When it was announced the sport would be part of the Olympics in Brazil, Australia began scouring the nation to find the best available talent — from any background — that would give them the best chance of finishing atop the podium in 2016.

The ARU held a series of national talent searches across the country, where interested players were encouraged to come and try out.

It was a stroke of genius.

Things are insanely close in the equestrian right now.  We're in second place in the teams event, marginally ahead of the French.  Right now we need our last rider to go clear in the jumping leg to get us the Silver.  If he does that and Mark Todd has a disaster on his round then we might sneak the Gold.  For reference, Mark Todd is one of the best riders in the world, has been for about twenty years and the chances of him blowing this are probably similar to the chances of Melbourne playing finals this year.

Seems the gold medal from our women's rugby 7's didn't rub off on the men who lost first up to France 14-31.

As you said RM, lets hope for the same miracle in the equestrian that we are in the AFL.

Well, we had a mixed miracle with the Horsies.  Mark Todd did indeed stuff it up and knocked the Kiwis out of the medals, but then our last rider knocked two rails down as well and suddenly we're in third behind the French and German teams.

I guess this means that The Saints are going to get eighth spot?

Always a bit disappointing when you fall from a gold medal position to the bronze. But a great effort either way, considering our once dominance in equestrian hasn't been there since Sydney 2000.

Australia Opals seem to have found their groove with a 89-71 victory over France.

Opals had been scratchy in their fiest two matches, but from part way through tje 2nd term the Opals found some breathing space and never looked back. Penny Taylor reminding everyone why she's one of the worlds best players.

Meanwhile our mens rugby 7's team are in all sorts, just ahead 14-12 at half time with Spain.

Loose this and there goes any medal chance for them. Baring a miracle.

Rugby 7's win 26-12 to keep their medal chances alive. Meanwhile the matildas are 2-0 up on Zimbabwe to also keep their chances of progressing to the quarter finals alive.

The Matildas are now assured of a Q/F berth after their 6 - 1 victory over Zimbabwe.

And the Stingers (the women's water polo team) had a convincing first-up win over Russia (14 - 4)

While are basketball teams are flying with 5 wins from 5 matches combined, our hockey teams are really struggling with only one win from 5 matches now.

Kookaburra's went down 1-0 to Belgium and are now really up against it. They have Great Britain next and need a win to get some confidence back before the quarter finals. They certainly beat Brazil in their final match, but a win over decent opposition is what they really need.

Bronze to Emma McKeon in the 200m Freestyle.

Great effort by the girl after her poor swin in the final of the 100m Fly. She went out hard and held on for bronze.

That's a bronze to be proud of. And also well done to Bronte Barratt swimming a PB in her final individual swim.

So close to another gold but to medal is an achievement in the whole scheme of things ...

Aussies pay price for clipped fences as gold slips from Australia’s grasp in the eventing team’s event

Quote

Like a batsman getting a thin edge Christopher Burton sensed the “thud of death’’ behind him and knew the gold was gone midway through his round.

“It is pretty hard to miss the oohs noise the crowd make in a stadium like this. The horse is still learning but I am not disappointed in him. He is a little superstar.’’

Emma McKeon claims bronze in super heat won by American star Katie Ledecky

Quote

EMMA McKeon has pulled out a stunning 200m freestyle performance with an incredibly brave swim to claim a deserved bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games.

Just 48 hours after she shed tears of disappointment over her 100m butterfly final, McKeon bounced back with an outstanding swim against two of the biggest names in the sport to finish third.

Thanks for the update once again Macca.

A few crucial team sport matches overnight. Our Rugby 7's team need a good result to progress to the quarter finals, the hockeyroos need to knock over Argentina to get their campaign back on track while in the beach volleyball Laird & Del Solar need to win to keep their hopes of progressing to the Round of 16 alive.

Typical of the Olympics isn't it? ... we often do well or very well in events in an unexpected way and often not-so-well with the more fancies chances in other events.  Of course sport is the ultimate reality show so anything can happen and often does.

The biggest long shots in terms of winning a medal of any colour in the team events would be the Boomers and the Sharks (men's waterpolo) ... wouldn't it be great to see a medal in either sport?  More so the Boomers because of their profile and so far, they're tracking very well.

The Sharks aren't out of medal contention with 8 nations qualifying for the Q/F's but we'll need to defeat Japan tonight and then defeat one of Greece or Serbia to have a chance of advancing.

As always, the team events are great to watch with so much on the line in any of the matches.  Getting to the Q/F's is not always as easy as it might seem and as we know, anything can happen once it's gets to the knockout stage.

Both the men's & women's hockey teams need to get a move on.

A talking point from today that had slipped my mind until now was the decision to withdraw Cam McEvoy from the 4 x 200m squad to rest him for the 100m Freestyle final.

McEvoy's replacement Daniel Smith swam a good second plus slower then the other relay members. Having McEvoy instead could have secured a bronze or silver instead of 4th.

I hope Cam wins gold in the 100m Freestyle tomorrow so the end justify the means.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Once again the club’s top goal scorer but he had a few uncharacteristic flat spots during the season and the club will be looking for much better from him in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #18 Jake Melksham

After sustaining a torn ACL in the final match of the 2023 season Jake added a bit to the attack late in the 2024 season upon his return. He has re-signed on to the Demons for 1 more season in 2025. Date of Birth: 12 August 1991 Height: 186cm Games MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 229 Goals MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 188

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. 2024 Player Reviews: #39 Koltyn Tholstrop

The first round draft pick at #13 from twelve months ago the strongly built medium forward has had an impressive introduction to AFL football and is expected to spend more midfield moments as his career progresses. 2024 Player Reviews: #42 Daniel Turner

The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. The Demon’s key defender and backline leader had his share of injuries and niggles throughout the season which prevented him from performing at his peak.  Date of Birth: 5 March 1996 Height: 195cm Games MFC 2024: 18 Career Total: 178 Goals MFC 2024: 1 Career Total: 5

2024 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club.
