More AFL hypocrisy on display if we needed reminding.

Also excellent article by Rita Panahi in The HUN today on the AFL.

She has them pegged.

Not so sure about that. I wouldn't call that article excellent.  Typical  Murdoch propaganda against those who don't fit in with  his politics or business interests and only fit for lining my canary cage.  Can't  trust them because there is an agenda there even when they mix truths in with their distortions.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess adc.

Trying to suggest that News is better than the AFL is like getting out of the frying pan into the fire.

I would not trust either as far as I could see them.

However I still liked the article.

Please tell me the game is corrupt, that there was a betting plunge on a juiced up Essendon and Melbourne tanked.

At least that would make some sense from the weekend.

Maybe the two clubs can come up with a Cup........the Disrepute Cup.

Three inexplicable losses in identical long odds circumstances in less than a year make even less sense.

The AFL is business first (before everything else). I am not surprised to see the AFL continue to pray on the poor. The have enabled - and supported - clubs that revenue raised off of pokies, and the AFL continue to advertise sports betting. In addition, the AFL have long endorsed alcohol sponsorship, and after all this, they try lecture people on how to act, behave, and preach their integrity. I would love to see the game of AFL stripped right back, limited business, more ethics, and have the product as the actual game.

They are not a business they are a not for profit organisation. The only ones profiting are the executives who line their pockets making commercial decisions. Corruption? Nah

I'm not HUN reader but gee whiz, screams of "Murdoch propaganda" are soooo 2012.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
