Class of 2016: AFL Bloodlines

There are no father sons in the article although Jake Lovett might still be a chance. The closest to home for me is this player -

Almost a spitting image of his older brother, the recently-turned 18 year old already strikes an imposing figure with his filled-out frame. Brayshaw is an inside-leaning midfielder, who wins the contested footy and stands out at the clearances. His one and only TAC Cup game delivered 13 disposals and a goal, to go with three tackles and three marks against eventual Premiers Oakleigh."

For once im not interested...

The 2016 draft? You guys are insatiable. I am still trying to get my head around our current list. Time does not stop but it has become such a meat market. Let the football begin so we can focus on the game and how our current crop of players go. I want to feel that passion in the blood again and I am not talking about extra curricular activities involving my best friend's rather attractive and curvy ex-wife.

If you think it's too early to talk about the 2016 draft, don't bother venturing over to the Kalani White thread.

This may be a complex concept for you to try to understand, but it's very difficult to have any real grasp on what these players are like at Draft time, unless you've spent a bit of time earlier in the year monitoring them.

Mach5 what is the point of worrying about the next batch of kiddie stars. We won't be getting a first round pick at this stage. Essendon and Calton should get the 1 & 2 draft picks. I am more concerned about this year.aren't you ?

Being more concerned about one issue than another does not preclude anyone from still being concerned about the latter; in fact it requires it.

Could we lucky enough to have another big/little bro combo!

While we don't yet have a 1st rnd pick it looks like a few clubs will want to activate their F/S draftees.  If so they will be like Academy clubs and want to trade a high pick for a batch of low pics (which we should have if some of FA's move on).

So there is every chance of getting Hamish, if he is available at whatever pick we have!

I'd say it's unlikely we'll get Brayshaw. I think if we're active with trades we'll be looking to bring in more experienced players rather than youngsters. Not that I wouldn't love a second Brayshaw...

Ben Ainsworth Mid-Fwd Victoria Plays like: Jamie Elliot

Averaged the most Champion Data ranking points of any mid-forward at the 2015 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Kicked the second-most goals behind Josh Schache.

Jacob Allison Midfielder Queensland  Plays like: Elliot Yeo

Brisbane Lions Academy member. Playmaking midfielder, he averaged the most Champion Data ranking points of any underage player at the Under-18 Championships.

Jarrod Berry Defender Victoria Plays like: Corey Enright

Hard-running intercepting defender, averaging five intercept possessions and two intercept marks at the 2015 Championships.

Braidon Blake Forward Victoria Plays like: Jordan Roughead

Shutdown defender, he showed flexibility, playing through the ruck and forward line, averaging five hitouts and booting four goals.

Jack Bowes Midfielder Queensland  Plays like:  Harley Bennell

Gold Coast Academy player. He played one NEAFL game last season for Gold Coast, producing 22 disposals and one goal.

Will Brodie Midfielder Victoria Plays like: David  Armitage

A strong bodied midfielder, he averaged 20 disposals and five clearances across his six matches for the Murray Bushrangers in 2015.

 

The next group of players from the latest edition of Football Almanac and I must say I find the player comparisons somewhat amusing. Poor Peter Ladhams would have felt on top of the world until he was compared with Robert Warnock who was dumped last year by the Blues and couldn't find a suitor anywhere despite being a very tall man.

Dylan Clarke Midfielder Victoria Plays like: David Swallow

Big bodied inside midfielder, who won 10 or more contested possessions in six of his 13 TAC Cup games last year.

Jordan Gallucci Forward Victoria Plays like: Devon Smith

Dangerous playmaker, averaged 14 disposals and one goal playing across half-forward at the 2015 Under-18 Championships.

Peter Ladhams Ruck South Australia Plays like: Robert Warnock

A 202cm ruckman, impressed with his tap work at the 2015 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, recording a hitout win rate of 54% - ranked second.

Harrison Macreadie Defender NSW/ACT Plays like: Harry Taylor

A member of the GWS Academy, Macreadie averaged seven intercept possessions and two intercept marks per game in the TAC Cup.

Andrew McGrath Midfielder Victoria Plays like: Jack Macrae

Played seven TAC Cup matches with the Sandringham Dragons as a composed midfielder, averaging 23 disposals and five tackles from his final four games.

Harry Morrison Defender Victoria Plays like: Michael Hibberd

Successfully returned from an ACL injury to play the final seven games for Murray in the TAC Cup, averaging five intercept possessions and one intercept mark per game.

Brandan Parfitt Midfielder Northern Territory Plays like: Jack Steven

Rated elite as a midfielder for metres gained and score involvements at the 2015 Under-18 Championships. Has played five SANFL games with North Adelaide.

I'd like to see us in the thik of the trading action for an early 1st rnd pick in the 2016 draft.  

I'd really like us to find another skilled running back,  & anther tall defender to look to replacing dunn & garland over the next 3 yrs.

some more pace & skills would be handy as a running mid,  who can play inside without flinching would be handy.

Sam Powell-Pepper Midfielder Western Australia Plays like:  Brad Ebert

Averaged 18 disposals, three clearances and one goal in his seven games in the WAFL Colts. Played off half-back in the 2015 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Josh Rotham Defender Western Australia Plays like: Cale Hooker

Can play both key forward and key back, as well as in the ruck when required. Selected at centre half-back in the WAFL Colts Team of the Year.

Jonty Scharenberg Midfielder South Australia Plays like: Dion Prestia

Brother of Collingwood's Matthew, he averaged 27 disposals, 13 contested possession and six clearances per game in the SANFL Reserves.

Brad Scheer Midfielder Queensland  Plays like: Dan Hanneberry

Scheer won the Alan McLean Medal as best Division 2 player at the 2014 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships averaging 26 disposals, five clearances and six tackles.

Jack Scrimshaw Defender Victoria Plays like: Grant Birchall

At the 2014 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships he averaged 119 Champion Data ranking points, 20 disposals and three intercept marks per game.
