From a video on the website looks like they had the 3km time trial today.

Anyone know any results?

Unsurprisingly looks like tmac came in first.

Just looking at the video:

McDonald

Grimes

Bugg

A tall slim figure that could be Oscar Mc

Stretch

Melksham

3 defenders - Garland, Dunn, Jetta coming in together.

Harmes

Wouldn't have been fun in this wind.

Unless someone happened to be there I don't think we'll ever know detailed results from this one.

Rumour has it Toumpass just finished his 3 k time trial from Monday

Hope that Harmes is building his tank. His aggression around the stoppages was terrific last season but his fitness wasn't quite there.

If he can build his endurance I think he could be a key player for us. Has terrific strength for a player his age. Shows when taking contested marks or getting his arms free in stoppages. Great tackler too. One to watch

Apparently, he just edged out Jordie Gysberts in the last 20 metres.

Thats unfair Jordie had just done ten push ups.

Jordie Gysberts was actually first but he found it impossible to break through the tape at the finishing line.

I take it no-one was there...?

Probably can't type with one finger either.

Interesting nice to see Bugg up there early and Grimes (something to prove this year?)

I went along at about 10:30am and the drills weren't very intense, so it must've been after the run.

There were 3 groups rotating between 3 drills - being set shot goal kicking, 1v1 marking contests and a ball-up ruck contests with 2 teams of mids. Not much to report really, I wasn't there that long.

Players missing were: Jones, Vince, Hogan, Petracca, Brayshaw, Lumumba, Trengove, Tyson, Newton, Pederson, O McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Kennedy, Garlett, Spencer, Terlich, M Jones, King.

A few observations were:

  • Viney is just scary... just so ripped.
  • Most were pretty up-beat, a lot of talk and encouragement from Watts.
  • Joel Smith has a serious leap. In the contested marking drill they used bags at one stage. One was basically to take a speccy on, using the knee. Well, all the others got a knee up on the bag and took the grap. Smith basically stood on top of it. Jumped on to it and used his feet!
  • Stretch did quite a few good things in the 3v3 mids roving from the ruck, congratulated by the coaches.
  • White has a thumping kick.
  • Melksham was looking alright, did some good things.

That's about it I'm afraid... not much happened really!

Col will be right up there, when he gets an injury-free preseason.

Thanks, Ruffles! You saved the day!! Without you, there would have been NO report at all -- and thus a pointless thread! Well done!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
