Well then we have to honour his contract

But he might be happy to get paid out and get on with his life. He can get a paid gig at a local league too.

The club will obviously tell him that they have no intention of giving his senior games next year. Then it is up to him how he wants to proceed.

It's a delicate situation and it needs to be handled gracefully or it will put a lot of our players off side. You can't just dishonour contracts when it suits you. It has to be done with both parties mutually agreeing to the decision.

Yeah, I agree with all this.

No doubt Terlich may well harbour the desire to stick around but let's be realistic for a moment. As a listed player with his age and experience, he failed to get a senior gig once this year while others around him who have subsequently been delisted managed to get game time. With the list expected to be stronger in 2016, I can't see any of the coaches reassuring him about his prospects of playing anywhere other than in the VFL if he remains.

I know there is an argument for not breaking written agreements and avoiding the stigma of a club that dismisses its loyal servants summarily but negotiating the early termination of inconvenient contracts is part and parcel of commercial life (and how often are we told these days that football's a business?). I'm of the opinion that in all probability, negotiations are going on that will result in a mutually acceptable payout of Dean Terlich's contract which will be announced at or before the next list lodgement date. Viv Michie might also be a casualty as well.

In the end, the club will have pick 50 restored and it wouldn't surprise if it kept another pick to pass on and perhaps even go into the season with five rookies (one of who might be a father/son). Sometimes, funny things happen behind the scenes at this time of year.

Thanks.

Playing VFL as an AFL listed player still seems a better life to me, even if your ceiling has already been reached, but hopefully he'd see it as the greater good for the team to be paid out. Pedersen was told he probably wouldn't get a game if he played like he did last year and then came good, despite injury. I don't see it as a foregone conclusion that Terlich is paid out, even if I hope it is.

If Terlich survives, I'm going to make a bold prediction that he'll hit a rich veign of form and play 10 or 11 games for the club next year.

He'd be a half decent small defender if he didn't turn the thing over every second possession.

I read every Casey player review last year and I can't remember many flattering reports about Terlichs play. Seems to be a very ordinary player even at VFL level.

Can't understand him still being around.

He is contracted.

Sorry to hijack the Dean Terlich thread but just wanted to say how happy I am for James Harmes...

Good size, aggressive and can only get better...

Work hard and enjoy your successes... Let's just hope there are plenty to enjoy!

There in lies the problem. He is a chronic turnover merchant and that is unlikely to change at this stage of his career.

He was also criticised for playing loose and losing track of his opponent.

......but, apart from those little matters .....

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
