I also recall him saying very matter of factly that his aim was to become an All Australian defender within the next few years. Low and behold, he'd legitimately be the first KPD picked in the side right now. He's pretty much willed himself to get to this level. Long may it continue.

Our most important player, imo as important as hogan and jones

Has now added Franklin to his evergrowing list of victims.

At only 22 he is of great importance to the side but next year (if not by seasons end) Hogan will be our most important player.

Easily our best player this season and will be AA if he continues.

Lets hope his brother can come on as much as he has!

I was reading an article on the MFC website about the meditation the players do before each game with T Mac saying how much it has helped him.You can tell by watching him this year he is in the zone, even during the bad games he keeps performing, something for all us supporters to be positive about.

Future captain

So disinterested in the posts that call for a young player to be captain after showing some ability both on and off the field. Just let the kid play, grow up, and be a dominant key defender. When we are challenging for a flag, I just want him concentrating on the job at hand, which is as important as any role on the ground.

I heard Leigh Mathews talk about the Dees yesterday, and he said he really liked the way things were building, said if you have a bookend at either end of the ground who is capable of playing at AA level ( Hogan and Mcdonald ) and then build around that with guys like Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, Toumpas, Trengove all high picks and very talented than you'll generally be okay in the long run

We haven't got a great track record with AAs I would get my hopes up....

KB will vote for Rance regardless, but hopefully the rest of the panel are sensible. Right now TMac is first picked.

But there's a long way to go, and they tend to care about those who finish well moreso than those who start well.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
