Melbourne v Fremantle @ Fremantle Oval - 5th March, 2015

Next training, I will ask him his opinion of you, run over your cat did he, does that include the two or three Coach's awards?

A response like that only confirms your emotional attachments to most players on our list due to the time you spend at training and talking to them.

This is a football forum where people, (whether you like it or not) have formed opinions on players based off form during AFL *games*, not training sessions.

If you so claim to not having emotional attachments/bias toward players on our list, then why may I ask do you even take the time of day to respond to posts like the one you've responded to which to me clearly looks as if it's offended you?

I appreciate your feedback, but 'iindiscretions', how preposterous, this is footy, yes Jordie makes mistakes, show me a footy player that doesn't, not the first to miss directly in front, and certainly won't be the last, when he pulls on the jumper he gives it 100% every time, that does me, if you call it an emotional attachment, then I can wear that

He won coachs awards, so others must rate him as well.

TDI, I have said this many times - your training reports are great and I really appreciate all that you do for the Demonlanders. However I stand by my strike rate of identifying sub standard Melbourne footballers , where others are delusional and think that a pre season will change 5 years of mediocrity and skill level. We have a difference of opinion on this player and Im sure we would have argued over players like Tapscott , Gyberts, Fitzy & Morton ( BTW he did a full pre season at WC and look how that ended up)

Its one thing to be one eyed & loyal but sometimes the hard light of day is a more realistic option.

My opinion is that he is a very limited footballer and I would prefer the club gets 4 - 5 games into one of the younger blokes rather than going down the McKenzie path.

Happy to be proven wrong but am confident I wont be

I agree. The likes of Jamar, Dunn and Garland didn't really become handy footballers until well into their careers, the players you mentioned are not so old that they should be considered to have reached their ceiling yet IMO. They'd want to get a wriggle on though.

Garland doesn't belong on that list; he was established in the side and playing regular, good footy by the time he was 21. I know it feels like he's been around forever but the guy is only 26, he's only just reached "well in to his career" now and his best footy is arguably still ahead of him.

I agree with the gist of your point, though.

It all depends on your definition of 'limited footballer', he is on an AFL and he has played quite a few games and stayed on the list, some others you mentioin haven't, so therefore he can't be that 'limited'

Yes I get as frustrated as the next during games, especially in the last few years, at some of the horrible turnovers and mistakes, but there seems to be a belief on here that players can't improve.

I have spoken to both Mark Jamar and Lynden Dunn, (our 2 veterans) about this, they have learnt so much more under Roos in the last 18 months

Joride Mc may not get games this year, who knows, I don't pick the team, but because of the depth (again some posters think this doesn't exist), I have seen him lift his game again, he has had to

Of course if one of the 'younger' blokes comes in in his place and doesn't perform, we will have some fresh meat to complain about

I am completely aware that all footballers make mistakes. That is an irrelevant point.

If we had a list full of blokes who gave 100% effort but couldn't execute basic skills on a consistent basis, how far up the ladder do you think we'd go?

You are the only poster on this site that responds in a way that is as if someone has abused a family member or something. What does that hint to?

People have learnt to accept that your training reports are for the most part a friendly chat to players regularly and a positive spin on training with cameo mentions here and there of who did what well. Why can't you accept that some posters will have opinions about certain players that have been formed from watching them in AFL games over years?

If we're serious about our club moving forward and serious about our list management and recruiting, then players who do not perform fundamental skills on a consistent basis and who do not offer enough at AFL level will be moved on. That is a fact.

Jordie's contract runs out at the end of this year I believe and unless his kicking, marking and ball handling in general have improved out of sight over the pre-season, the reality is he will be gone. Even blokes who play 'roles' like Nev Jetta has recently consolidated can perform basic skills consistently at AFL level.

That's as simple as the blokes who are 'OOC' first will be the ones moved on if they're deemed not good enough.

Jordie as well as other past Melbourne players are unique in that they have not had the same competition for spots as other teams have. We have had a laughable list for years and in my view there were players on our list who should've never been added but were due to a number of factors. One being our shocking recruitment of top end talent, most of whom are gone now! The evidence is that now, under competent management we're slowly seeing the blokes that should've never been getting games go.

Haven't missed a game live (in Melb and some i interstate) or on TV that Jordie has played in since making his debut, even watched him at Casey games, formed my opinion from there, he is unfairly maligned on here, my opinion

hmm yeah in 2010 he turned 22 early in the year... he was OK at that stage but really only became a player around 2012/2013. That was when we being mercilessly smashed by everybody and the ball was in his defensive 50 about 95% of each game.Let's be honest he's never been a superstar, but at times worthy of being in an AFL side, which I still think is possible of these maligned blokes.

I'm not a big Jordie fan, but in the last few minutes against Essendon he was absolutely brilliant - the match was up for grabs and he stood up under pressure, we simply would not have won that without him. Bought himself some big credits in my book that night.

Steady now, agreed

Garland's "breakout" (as much as I hate that word) year was in 2008, not 2010. 2010 was just picking up where he left off after he missed all but the first game of 2009 with a foot injury.

Your opinion

Are you trying to suggest our wooden spoons and awful football for close to that last decade hasn't been down to a laughable list? I'd love to hear what it's really down to then.

Sitting in the old stand at freo oval waiting for the boys to start training. Anyone else from 'land here?

Boys still haven't run out to start the session, handful of patient dees fans waiting eagerly to see them.

They just arrived, headed into the rooms to get changed I guess. Coaching group out on the field talking it up.

Edit: Ross Lyon out there chatting to Roosy and the other coaches.

Jones doing a media interview, boys just walking back out now

Except from The Age

The Dees will be close to full strength against Fremantle with only Bernie Vince (hamstring), Jeremy Howe (hamstring), Dean Terlich, Jack Fitzpatrick and Jack Trengove (foot) sitting out the match.

Have they forgotten someone? Mr. Watts.

Kicking it around amongst each other, very casual start, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get Kent's autograph for my son.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
