There is a way to limit the access to the site for guests but that can create it's own problems with new "blood" getting to the site and I don't want to exclude people because they can't afford it. I really don't want people to have to pay to access the site. The donations and subscriptions are just ways that the regulars can help out.

Mr. Demonland I have asked this in the past " Is there anyway of advising members when their annual membership expires"?

I never know when I should be paying mine.

If I knew a date I would renew on that date as I am sure I have run over the 12 months in the past.

Perhaps list it on my information area?

Ok, I was good to my word and donated the extra $40 to bring my Lifetime membership up to $100 ;-)

Cheers. Thank you and to all the others. So far we have paid for 4 months of hosting!

I thought it sent you a reminder email. Other than that I'm not sure there is anything I can do about that as it is built in software to the system. I deliberately did not want them to auto-renew because I hate it when sites or companies do that. The only thing I can suggest is that when you start seeing Ads on the site again it is time to renew.

I understand your dilemma, but if Demonland closes it's ruined for all of us. Hence a sustainable business model is needed in the first instance.

I am not trying to cause you grief you have enough of that as a MFC supporter.

I have never received a renewal notice.

No big deal just thought it might help with cash flow.

Hopefully it does not come to that. I dislike coming cap in hand but unfortunately I am a victim of this sites popularity.

Our popularity and traffic, particularly on game day and when big news items hit (there have been a lot in the past few years - sacked coaches, tanking, vineygate), has forced us onto a dedicated server and a few bumps in specs inorder to handle it all. Nasher is more qualified to go into specifics.

We have over 3,000 signed up members and about 100 people who have taken out a subscription since 2011.

other forums i read often have raffles wherein items (ie demon memorabilia) is raffled off to help supplement the site running costs.

I'm sure if there was a signed guernsey with raffle tickets costing $2 you'd easily be able to sell 500-1000.

with these other forums, extra tickets were released and due to volume there ended up being 3 first prizes on offer.

Would be a shame to see this great forum close the doors.

Thank you so 0.03% my god that shows something.

Even if half the members are not active we still have less than 1% supporting the site.

Fire up guys pay your way if you value the site.

Due to the fact that we have had issues during peak times for the site we have had to up the specs on our dedicated server and as a result it is costing us $150 a month up from $90. In addition we have bi-yearly forum software costs which include much needed tech support as well as other associated costs. These costs are all mounting and it is all coming out of my own pocket. This cannot be sustained for much longer and as a result we might see the end of this site in the not too distant future.

All proceeds from subscriptions go towards paying for the site costs and periodically if there is anything left in the kitty I throw some of it Nasher's way for the amazing job he does in keeping the site's backend running smoothly or I will donate it back to the club.

So if you want to help us out then there is a way to do so as well as getting something back in return.

I would be loathed to have to shut down this site but I just cannot continue to support it on my own.

Thank you.

Demonland just purchased a lifetime membership.

Don't tell my missus though ;)

Not a techy - but is it possible you could put a traffic cap/limit on the site for now - and give first preference to members (encouraging people to join).

Thats probably to complicated and would tick a few people off.

Demonland, can I pay $20 a fortnight over 3 payments? Just most of my spare cash goes on my volunteering work.

That's very generous of you but I would prefer you kept the money if you can't afford it. It's only a footy forum. Volunteering and donations to proper causes are more worthy. Thank you anyway.

Have you tried the "subscriptions" button on the top of the page?

I want to pay a life membership, but to do so I can't really dump $60, but I can easily do 3x$20, if I can't can I make 3 donations of $20 and then u make me a lifer :)

So it's not I can't afford it, I just can't pay $60 in one hit for the next couple of months.

If you would like to do it that way then sure. PM me and we can work it out.

People have also asked if the can direct deposit as they don't like credit card or have PayPal. If you want to direct debit PM me for details and I can manually change your member status.

I'll happily chip in.

But as others have said, I wouldn't mind seeing it become compulsory for a membership after say a one or two month trial period for new members.

If you had every member on here paying $10 say for an annual membership the site shouldn't have any issues.

I also like the idea that someone put forward previously to put MFC sponsors on here and gain some small amount of revenue from the club.

Just my opinion but I would like to think Demonland is independent of the MFC.

We can then speak our minds on the MFC without fear of offending or being beholding to any MFC sponsor.

The MFC can then say "nothing to do with us guys just an independent fan site"

I've been worried for some time now that the site lacks any sort of perspective on the MFC from the land of the latter day saints .....

rectified!
