We have heaps of outside mids on our list.

Can any of them play?

There is no doubt Watts, Toumpas can play but it's around the stoppages that we need to win the ball to get it out to them. Dangerfield, Mundy for example are fast running inside mids who win the hard ball and would feed it out to Toumpas and Watts.

I can't see us winning more than 5 games and this given, I'd say the AFL will "award" a priority pick. That'll mean two picks in the top 10. It will be interesting to see.

Why would they award us a PP if we win 5 games? Last year we only won 2 games and didn't get a pick. The whole thing is a farce ( as we should have got Boyd last year).

We need a strong fast inside midfielder with our first pick. And a forward who can do time in the ruck with our second pick or a ruck who can go forward.

Go the key forward with the first pick and look for the mid with our second pick. Game breaking KPFs are rarely found outside the top 10 these days.

I'll admit it's unlikely and I meant no more than four games. I think PJ could mount a case for comp. We might be improving, but the AFL won't want us taking 5 years to win 10 games. We need that injection of talent and quickly. Depending on the amount of wins, I think the club will seek the PP again. And should.

EDIT. Will might be a contentious point.

We have spent big on KPF's with Clark, Watts, Dawes, and Hogan. Looks like we need to get another.

Our midfield is still needs another hard inside midfielder and it would be looking good, we have the foundations of a great midfield with Jones, Viney, Tyson but we need another hard running tough inside mid who gets heaps of it and then the midfield would be formidable.

I agree. I just think we don't have to use our top pick on that midfielder, when we have pressing needs for a KPF - historically, those that play that position brilliantly are high draft picks.

I really like the look of Aiden Riley and Viv Michie.

I know they havent shown too much yet, but id love to try develop them

If we're going with Patton, I'd add Prestia. Another MFC supporter. ;) Bring 'em home. :P

Prestia is quick and a clearance machine. Probably the only non-MFC player I actually follow, mainly because he's a Melbourne boy and I hold out some ridiculous hope of getting him one day. If we get two top 5 picks, I'd be offering one for Prestia and use the other on a big forward.

I'm all for Prestia. & I'd like to keep an eye on Gaffs progress over the next 2 years.

but we can't go too young, we also need more vigorous 24 Yr olds, atmo. Even Rosa @ 27 Yrs.

are there any mature half back flankers 23Yrs + out about?

i know its unlikely, but does anyone like matera from gold coast? looks ilk he's going to be a fantastic player.

he's a bit too inconsistent for my liking. Not only that, but his better games are usually against us. If he is able to bridge the gap between his best and worst performances, he'd be a handy pick-up and the tandem duo of him and JKH as our small forwards could be quite lethal.

He's a WA kid also, so the only realistic move would probably be back west.

Mckay? would be worth a look

Neither can get a game with GWS, hardly worth picks 2 & 20.

Orourke wont go for anything other than a first rounder. Same boat as Tyson.

As for Jaskch, i assume if he doesnt play much this year then we could probably strike a really good deal.

Pick 2 and a 3rd rounder is out best possible result

I know we chased him a few years back, but I watched him play so have nothing to go on.

I know gaff is mentioned as an elite runner, is from Melbourne, & was a Dees supporter. I hear he's a bit outside at the moment, but is churning out good running, & is a regular in the eagles senior teams for a couple of years, so should have a number of games up.

Prestia looked great in the replay & hard at it inside player & very good competitor. looks like a Mitchell type.

Our focus will definitely be on interstate players who can't get regular games, and originate from Victoria. The money alone won't bring talent to our club because we're so far away from a respectable club at this stage.

More Michies, more Tysons, more seasoned veterans in the outs of their current clubs (due to youth playing policies).

That kid from Adel, Reilly I think it is.. Is supposed to be pretty handy, I haven't seen him play - but the wraps on the kid are that he is ahead of Michie.

Gaff doesn't excite me. He's also too outside for our needs at the moment.

If we can get an established ruckman, then that's where we need to be looking.
This isn't another 'Spencil is a shocker' post but that situation just seems so tentative.
We have to blokes who are both project players and another bloke who took years to come on but now is struggling with injury.
If we could get a Todd Goldstein type then that would be bloody magnificent! (Unlikely, but magnificent).

Jamar will bounce back and Gawn is about ripe.

Have faith in our ruck stocks, they aren't as bad as some make out.

No, our best result is to use pick 2 if we have it on a KPP in the draft.
