Trengove under Roos

Featured Replies

I was about to bump an old thread but I felt reading through two years of masked (and sometimes unmasked) disappointment it is a bit pointless - we know where his form has been.

So I thought I would begin another after his promising start on Friday in Roos' first game, and mention that his 29 touches came in 64% game time. That's about 80 minutes. For a measure - Jones played 78% (approx 95 minutes).

The modern midfielder never plays above the 90% threshold but there is another 15-20 minutes that this endurance runner will be able to give when his match fitness hits its peak.

Predicting he will be back to his old self this season and beyond, fulfilling most people's early predictions for his career trajectory.

i.e. becoming a solid, reliable, hard-nosed, respected midfielder in the Lenny Hayes mould.

Hopefully freedom to play his natural way, instead of playing certain roles for the team.

Poor kid looks much fitter and much happier so far this year. I hope he rips it up this year.

More Ryan O'Keefe than Bambi

'Something Bartel-like' was Trengove's future according to the pre-draft talk, though there was a bit question mark put on that in the last couple of years because of his issues with acceleration. As Bartel showed, it's not so great a problem having a mediocre top speed if your first few steps are quick and smart, and you can think at the same time as run.

But then again, the pre-draft chat about Scully was 'a zippier Simon Black'.

Wishing the best to all, I hope both reach the level they were touted at when they were teenagers.

Well spotted.

After seeing him move so fluently last week, I have no concerns for him going forward this year. I'm still in disbelief as to how much of a difference both Vince and Cross made to the team and especially to the performance and output levels of players like Trengove and some of our bottom-tier players like Bail. Tyson and Viv helped a bit with this as well.

This holding of possession game-style we've seemed to have adopted will bode well for Trengove as well as he can use his strong endurance to keep providing options. When the opportunity presents itself to really break through defence on the counter, players like Toumpas, Blease and Watts will be valuable for that kind of an attack.

Really looking forward to seeing how we standup against Geelong and Hawthorn in these praccie games.

I totally agree re Trengove. There is no player I am more excited to see develop this year than Trengove. He has been liberated from the captaincy, and finally has a few big bodied and experienced midfielders to give him a chop out. Our midfield is still poor, but finally he can concentrate on his game, get clear direction from a master coach, and build some confidence. I think it's going to be a massive improvement year from him.

If trenners plays every game like he did on friday night he will quickly become one of if not our most valuable player, won't be flashy or pretty to watch but like chunk jones will get the job done week in week out which is all anyone could ask of him
