EDIT*: Thanks for the reminder of Gillies, obviously a shocker and likely a rushed decision after the loss of Rivers. I wish time was taken to recruit a quality VFL (or equivalent) mature key defender.

Gillies is just that - a quality VFL, mature key defender. Was very good last game at Casey (for example). Whether or not he's a quality AFL mature key defender is another question!

Just to add:

Pedersen: I wouldn't be writing him off yet. A couple of very good/BOG games for Casey, and got plenty of it against the Pies. Is too good for the VFL (B&F last year), but whether he can take the step up on a consistent basis? Time will tell.

Sellar. Hmm. Would need a better second half of the year than what we've seen so far. Disappointing, he was far from our worst last year.

Compared to what happened under BP, drafting has been stellar, especially this year. With 14 players coming in, clearly there will be some who won't make it, but that's always the case. The draftees all seem keepers, which is more than we can say for the last few years' crop.

For what it's worth, the drafting during Neeld's time has been good. How much involvement he actually had we'll never really know.

Agreed. There were some misses, but they are not costly misses like we've had, and certainly not in a way that we've seen under previous set ups. Some people around here start crying if freeby hopeful at # 60 something isn't any good, I care when pick # 10 or so turns out to be a ballerina in disguise.

As far as I can tell MN best recruits to the MFC either are not allowed to play at this time or spend more time injured then they do actually playing.

Mind you give me millions of dollars to waste and even I would come up with a few winners.

History will show that MN was one of the worst VFL/AFL senior coaches ever. He is so lucky the AFL had allowed the two new expansion teams at the time he become a senior coach as this has made his win/lose statistics much better then it otherwise would have been.

He had taken the MFC from eight win in a season to where it will be lucky to win two.

People can sugar coat MN time as much as they like but in my opinion he was a dangerous virus that the MFC needed to get rid of and the more I am hearing of his coaching style the firm this belief becomes.

But what really upsets me is the fact he gets paid $600K by the MFC when in fact he should be paid the Club this money for what he has don or not done..
