I agree player/CEO is not the same thing, but I don't agree that money is the only possible factor that could overcome any conflict created by "barracker allegiance". How big a conflict would that be really and why does money neutralise such a thing?

We are looking for a proud professional.

I quote Peter Jackson below:

"I think that Melbourne being the centre of the universe for AFL footy. Its a big challenge. Its a founding Club. Its a proud Club. I think that people will want to come here and get it back up where it should be. The whole of the competition want Melbourne up and about. The AFL want Melbourne up and about. No-one wants this footy club down where we are at the moment. So people will get behind it and we will make it work."
"Ive been asked numerous times today How will we entice anyone here?. Easy. Its the biggest and best challenge in football at the moment and there are a lot of people out there who like those sort of challenges. Fundamentally thats why I am here. I cant say no to a challenge. So there will be others who will say the same thing."

I agree tricky, big challenges attract the people with Go in them, but we want people doing it so they can help rather than being the centre of all things AFL Media.

poos & wees guts just doesn't cut it.

all mouth & no create, just talk & finger pointing... whilst others do the creating.. its the creators we want, not the finger pointer.

I have stated before i hated Jeff as politician.

BUT a former premier of the state of Victoria, where Melbourne is the capital city has a certain symetry.

I found Don's speech yesterday rather forced. He has been there through this last 6 year HORROR SHOW & that is what it really is.

If one listens to what Kennett is actually saying he makes a lot of sense.

He is only going to do it if the MFC Members make the change.

Yes i am concerned about the way Jeff may preside over the club, but i am more concerned if Don and the current board stick around any longer.

HaHaHa, I'm glad your not a girl will, or some may call on you. B)

Biff, MJT. It's time for one of those sing a longs to ease the tension!

If Mr Freeman takes over I'm happy to support his ticket, butt Jeff would've got my vote before Don, and Dons kidding himself blowing down the opposition before he hears what they have to offer.

"We are Kennett Free"

According to my source inside the club .

Those of you who even considered the idea need lithium.

Thank Heavens for small mercies.

Is that whats wrong with geff, he runs around like an energizer man, a twin battery pack of lithium triple AAA's...

careful geff, you could end up doing adds again

I have stated that Don lost me on the deal brokered on "tanking" ( thats been debated to death so I am not trying to bring that up again). My reading is that Don is happy enough to pass over the reins - its just a matter of who.

Jeff Kennett is "Do'er" but has a history littered with divisiveness. I certainly want the do'er part but not the divisiveness. Its a no for me.

I do want to echo some of Redlegs comments on Don McClardy and the board - first and foremost - it is an unpaid position that requires many hours of sacrifice. I will critique the board and comment on successes and failures but will not damn them to the fires of hell as I believe ( maybe foolishly) that they have operated from a position of wanting to do good for our club. We may move them on and label their outcomes as unacceptable which is fair and reasonable but I will not label their efforts the same way.

this belongs in here >

from the McLardy is completely out of touch thread:

Wish you wouldn't go back and edit a few posts in, I nearly dropped my coffee, Keating and Kennett missed?.....are you actually living in a parallel universe.

Kennett got things done by stomping all over people, and not tidying up the mess behind him, if he is so brilliant, why isn't he the longest serving Premier still, because eventually people saw through him

Keating was, actually just see below

The reason that most people are disillusioned these days is because they are now well informed enough to realise that all politicians are only interested in one thing........themselves

All politicians are morally corrupt, Labor are the worst, it is full of ex unionists whose only job since leaving uni with an arts degree is working for a union or in a ministers office, they wouldn't know a real job if it came and bit them on the arse

Liberals just want to make money, the Greens are your local psychotic Neighbourhood Watch volunteer, and the Independents just offer their backsides up to whoever will keep them in Parliament

But back on topic, let's see what some of these so called influential supporters have got to say or offer, this forum is perfect for it, yet to see anything

I didn't know abbott was independent ???

anyway, back to footy...

Now geff,,, there's a different story... as our MFC president wanna-B, he just oozes Brown & Gold, or should we say, Poos & Wees... he's so full of it,,,, I don't want him within contagion distance...

.

Beverley O'Connor has just tweeted "Former Victorian Treasurer Alan Stockdale steps in as possible Melbourne President".

Wonder if he'll take his orders from Jeff Kennett like he did as Treasurer. (Just joking, by the way. I'm sure Stockdale wouldn't be listening to Jeff on how to run the MFC).

Given she's a former Vice-President of the club, perhaps we should give her tweet more credence than most other journalists' guesswork.

Stockdale was a Director for a few years in the early noughties IIRC.

Eyebrows was there the same time as Ian Johnson wasn't he ?

Johnson was OK from memory-ran 9 when it was entertaining and didn't make a mess of the club either .

To be honest, I wouldn't be as cynical about Stockdale as I would be about Kennett. I have reservations about how he left the board last time. Rumors were he was one of the blokes trying to draft Ron Walker in to replace Joe Gutnick and his gigantic pout which he put on paper in the Hun was nothing short of spectacular. Plus he mightn't be too bad if he gets a range of people in, not just the usual private school boys.
Besides that, he at least supports the club, has a history of playing a hand in the running of large scale organizations (MFC, MCC, Liberal Party, Victorian government) and is usually pretty low key in how he gets thing done.
I am neither here nor there on this but am definitely not as anti-Stockdale as I am anti-Kennett.

One thing in his favour is that he is a Demon.
