    Port is half-decent. They have an amazing resilience that they haven't had since they won the flag in 2004. To come back from 30 points down in a showdown and win, and back that up two weeks later by coming back from 40 points down in time on in the third, is immense.

    Of course, each week their best are generally Hartlett, Cornes, Boak, Ebert and Schulz. Their A-graders. Makes a huge difference, when I wouldn't rate the rest of their list much above ours. It's that class at the top that is driving them.

    I think its funny clubs passed on Hinkley.

    I wonder why they did. He was a great player for Geelong. Obviously can coach.

    Improvement of Westoff, Carlyle.

    Coach that appears to have the players respect.

    All this helps Port compared to last year.

    Hamish Harlett has always been a gun, just had trouble staying sound.

    The last quarter was inspiring from Port. Smashed them in the clearances and just kept attacking in waves. The spirit in that group right now must be sky high. They are essentially the anti-Melbourne.

    Compare Port's list, then compare ours. Hinkley actually had something to work with, and it's not so much of a 'miracle' to turn around a list with talent like theirs.

    Who knows ? They only won 5 games last year !. I cant believe they beat a side like the WC

    Now they are 5-0, You have to say they are a top 8 chance for sure. Who would have seen that coming.

    To be honest i thought they were a toss of the coin with GWS for the wooden spoon, it's always a nice surprise to see a team that has struggled go well,

    I suppose the biggest positive for us is that it shows how quickly things can come good, fingers crossed it's our turn next

    Oh c'mon..

    Is there no end to the excuses? We're talking about Port here, not one of the top four. I talked up their midfield especially in the pre-game thread for Round 1 and got all but shouted down. Suddenly their list is a bunch of world beaters.

    Blind Freddy can see that Hinkley has worked wonders with that team and it isn't just about the talent he has at his disposal. This is exactly the same list that no-one wanted a bar of last year. They're playing with belief. You don't come back from 41 points down in the third quarter unless you have a truckload of it. And in half the time as Neeld, and with a younger more inexperienced list.

    Port are 5 and 0. We've beaten a tired GWS in the last quarter. The chasm in talent is nowhere near that.

    Neeld's done absolutely nothing yet to warrant such a brazen dismissal.

      The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match.The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

      The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
