For all the talk about what yesterday's rabble should be doing to atone for their sins, a compulsory viewing and re-viewing of another Easter Monday classic would surely be better than most suggestions I've heard so far... just watching two sides prepared to keep fighting for the pill all over the ground and then using it sensibly at pace might at least imprint something into their heads about how the great game ought to be played.

Oh what we'd give for even one of those Cats' leaders, let alone the dozen or so that stand up time and time again.

Watching Smedts and Blicavs go after the ball with 2nd and 3rd efforts as if they would rather die than let their mates down just made me angrier and angrier. Selwood, Bartel etc... have set such a high standard of effort that no player can get in that side unless they show similar determination and urgency.

Why have we not set this same standard?

Geelong use the corridor - what outdated thinking!

On a serious note, the way the Cats play on instinct, back each other, communicate, encourage and attack is tremendous. Good to see Rivers contribute as well.

Varcoe down the boundary line on the MCC wing, kept following up and running hard, ended up with 3 or 4 possessions and ultimately a goal. Motlop for the Cats and Puolpolo for the Hawks didn't look too shabby either.

Both teams went hard all day. Hawks started to fade in the last quarter but still had enough heart to keep pushing the Cats.

I was there, it was an utterly depressing exercise. I kept thinking how much either team would smash us by.
