Agreed. I was really impressed with Neeld when we hired him. He seemed to say all the right things and knew what he was talking about. Fast Forward round 7 - it seems our coach is basically full of it. I had more respect for him after his round 1 press conference than I do now. As each week goes by he sounds more and more like a MFC employee - full of hot air and excuses. Time for Neeld to start taking some responsibility. What he is trying to do is not working at all - He clearly needs to tinker with the game plan to get some results because at this rate we will not win a game and he won't last the 3 years of his contract.

You think this club and players were good do you? 186 says hi...

Im sure you agree the players user Bailey had a flawed gameplan if there was one which was pulled apart week in week out.

Oh and now a 7 game coach is supposed to turn it all into gold when Bailey as co had how many years and couldn't get it right?

People love pulling out the words Mark Neeld said in his first speech but reality is you know that the aspiration in those words was never going to come to fruition that overnight.

Sure Mark is really enjoying losing.

I'm sure that's what he is trying to engineer?

He is 7 games in you surely can't expect miracles?

How about this for something next: stop tipping on the football department, we have some of the most respected and experienced blokes around. Next steps is to recruit some hard skilled footballers. Our cattle is the problem, some guys will make it, but a lot will get the boot when their contracts expire. We were terrible last night and I was embarrassed but I wouldn't be blaming the coaching staff - thats for the media. Just acknowledge that we're a bad team full of very bad draft choices. Case in point: Cyril or Cale?

honestly i've had enough. After 10 consecutive years as a member I have not paid up this year. I was waiting for them to show something, anything, but clearly this is not going to happen and I will not be renewing my membership. After the game I spoke to a whole lot of dees fans at the pub and all of them were as livid and depressed as me. We are a pathetic disgrace of a club and I wish we'd hurry up and fold to put us out of our misery.

i can't believe how many idiots continue to spout this garbage. Sorry but it is so stupid it makes my head hurt.OBVIOUSLY it is the club's inability to properly develop players, every single club would have taken Morton at 4 or even higher, it was an auto-selection FCS. The roblem is that he didn't go to a proper club or he would be playing like a pick 4 in some other guernsey. I suppose you reckon if we had not taken Watts at 1 he would have slipped to the 3rd round or something. Use your head FCS.

Its not bad draft choices. Its a slow developing disease caused by poor development, off field leadership, management and culture. Currently afflicts around 90% of our players to varying degrees of severity. New guys like Magner and Clark haven't been around long enough to be infected and still have the qualities they brought to the club. If we had recruited players like Rioli, Darling and whoever else is shining now I would expect them to be in the doldrums too.

Totally agree. No one is holding you here.

Go follow the netball.

We don't need fair weather supporters.

You stick with your club through thin and thin and more thin if that's what it takes.

If you can leave that easy you were never truly Melbourne in your heart.

No I think watts will be fine only if he can find some hardness - whether this can be taught remains to be seen. Morton is another story the kid cannot kick at speed. We recruited for a different game plan and recruited badly. Has been a terrible football club for development but what I'm saying is that we are where we are for a number of reasons, so either stop supporting the club or realise that this new regime will take time.

Yes we do. One of the perks and also vital ingredient for success. The more the better. if we only had die hards left we would end up like Fitzroy or South Melbourne and following a team in Western Sydney or somewhere else interstate. The only Way to get them is to play good football.

Sack the coach after 7 matches! Sounds like a definite fool proof plan for success. What could possibly go wrong?

Actually no we dont. We don't need people who come and go.

We need supporters who want to be Melbourne people forever.

We need to grow our supporter base not have people who are willing to walk away and not renew memberships. The people looking forward to having the club fold because it's easier for them to cope are not welcome.

This club has perhaps the most dormant supporter base in the game because of decades of mediocrity. One by one they slowly drop off. This even happened the Bombers recently until they saw what the problem was and fixed it. And Geelong dropped around 10,000 members because many thought the good time had gone after Ablett and Thompson left. We have to face up to reality.

I don't subscribe to the theory that supporters should be die hard and follow through decades of poor performance. The game has become increasingly professional, the club often refers to itself as an organization. If that's the case then supporters are shareholders. People are well within their rights to not buy a membership based on terrible performances to show the club they are tired of this.

We need to move to a 10 year plan that is about respect and honesty. Look at the swans. They can't afford to not be competitive because of their supporter base. We need to follow that plan to ensure our longevity.

I am a lifetime Demon and have been ever since I saw the 1987 finals series as an 8 year old. I'm not bowing out now but would my passion for the club be as strong if I was a kid now? I doubt it. Why would it be?

Looks like GW$ are going to win their first game.

How does that feel MFC?

Time to get tougher or else we will not survive.

The whole club must extract more. I do not care how. Mclardy down. Whatever is being done it is not enough or just not right.

I hope we do end up 18th. We will see who really does care.

Im sick of hearing how great Jamar was - winning taps is irrelevant if you never tap to advantage.

leaving the fickle older players out of the leadership group has just reinforced their 'cant be bothered' attitude. Putting the pressure of captaincy on a young bloke has made me too busy worrying about living up to the appointment to play his natural game.

But the biggest problem is that none of our younger players actually look like they have the potential to come on at all.

Bailey was wrong in getting rid of our few natural leaders. Leaving the young blokes to slog it out and now we've adopted a game plan that doesnt suit running players.

I thought we'd turned a page in Geelong but obviously I was wrong. Geelong were just resting in periods.

In terms of list - really Mitch Clark is the only player I think is safe on our list.

Why do you think we will not survive? The afl is clearly committed to

An 18 team comp - The days of a fitzroy type scenario are gone. We clearly won't fold, but we might finish last!

The AFL is also only interested in product. We are right on the edge i believe. This club just continues to under perform and get decisions wrong, for whatever reason.

Jim Stynes did a fantastic job and will always be revered, but even the Stynes board has made mistakes that are sfill festering today. We are seeing that now?

Why do players not trust each other after 8-9 months?

The problems are deeper than we can see.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
