I take issue with this because it isn't just Davey that needs to 'prove worth.'

Aside from Jones, Magner, Clark, Watts, and most of the backline - they all need to prove their worth. So if we are dedicating around 15 positions in our AFL side to those 'proving their worth' - I hardly think allowing Davey to do that in the AFL is 'hitting Rock Bottom.'

Considering his hefty contract i think a trip to Casey is most apt. Davey is our senior player. Not that you would know on the grass. Thus IMO rock bottom hath been finally reached.

If Davey can play like crud on a long term contract, and not be sent to the VFL team to work on it, what message does it send? More of the old Hollywood Boulevard mentality to me. As our midfield is going to get spanked again on Saturday i doubt Aaron is going to see too much of the ball anyhow.

Your points are fair enough, all of them.

But i think Aaron needs a game where he can get 30-40 touches. That would do his confidence a world of good. He has not played well for ages. Long before Mark Neeld walked in. Let's be honest.

I am definitely not one for the scorched earth policy and I will never consign any player still on our list "never to be in a Melbourne jumper again". If you are worthy of game then you get one - its that simple. Good form is rewarded and bad form requires demotion until the day too much bad form adds up and you are axed. Until that day - if your form warrants it - you get a game.

My issue with Aaron is not that he is down on form - most of the team are. Head over the ball has never really been his go - its been about getting the ball handed to him and running and linking. My concern is the perceived lack of effort to try and do the things he is good at.

If Aaron Davey can get a game this week, without going back to Casey to prove his worth to the TEAM then IMO we have officially hit Rock Bottom.

But hell, we are sitting poorly at 0-2. We have a game against Richmond who are also 0-2. Its critical that we make every effort to extract a win. We need to play our best side and that side will need someone who can crumb the packs up forward. Given the failure of Blease and Bennett, regretfully its Davey. We then have a draw of games over the next 8 weeks where we are going to find it harder to win. If we dont win on Saturday I can easily see us on form to date being 0-11. We must do everything in our power to notch up 4 points this week.

Given the season to date and given the importance of trying to get some points on the Board, I think there is an important judgement call to be made. The upside is that Davey does actually right the wrongs and he is a value add. The alternative is to put him at Casey and we have no FP crumber. Given his one of the highest paid players we should be seeking every way to turn him around and the Club extract some value.

Neeld/MFC already has treated him differently by taking him to Perth without any likelihood that they would play him there.

1. FWIW, I dont think there has been cleared within MFC. I know its "settled" but i cant for the life of me think that there was any "misunderstanding" with Mifsud. Davey was let down horribly by Mifsud and the AFL. No one will ever know the "truth" of what was said but I bet Davey's choice to speak with Mifsud has damaged his standing with key people at MFC.

2. Cute side steps aren't linebreaker and he was dropped for the WCE game for the nice things he did in the BL game.

3. If he's hounded at Casey, he would be hounded at the MCG. Officially the matter is "settled" and "mediation" has apparently occurred.

6. I would not think after what has transpired there is anything agreed with Davey. He needs to sing for his supper this week like a couple of senior players.

But first he needs to be selected against the Tigers. I think he will. I understand fully if he isnt.

For better or worse we have him till the end of 2013.

At his best he has been one of the Dees best players, he had speed and his kicking to position was amazing to watch.

For whatever reason we have not seen to much from him since he was injured in 2010.

IMO we probably will not see him ever again back to those previous levels.

However at 80% of 2010 he is better than the those who could replace him.

I believe the FD will try to get him back there for most of 2012.

What's Neeld's stated goal? ... 'to make us the hardest team to play against in the league'. Nothing fuzzy there. Conviction.

There are 18 teams vying for this thing in a cut-throat game of who dares wins. Therefore, logic would dictate that we need players who are prepared to hit, scratch, bite, fight and claw with their fingernails at every single contest.
