End of Year anticipation

Well...I was hoping we'd get closer to Round 23 before thinking about this...but.

Out of Contract/Free Agents (MFC):

Moloney (Restricted)

Bate

Dunn

Green

Jamar

Rivers

Of the above, right now I don't see Dunn and Green getting new deals. Riv hasn't been bad, Jamar is needed until Gawn comes through, Bate is ripping it up as a sub and Moloney will be considered needed unless someone actually comes in with an offer. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Beamer get an offer and possibly leave - wouldn't be surprised if GWS had a restricted crack at him considering draft concessions and a need for bodies (Cornes and Power only in for 1 year).

Other players up for going:

Evans

Joel MacDonald

Spencer

Lawrence

Evans injured indefinitely, unfortunate. Joel Mac not good enough. Spencer not good enough. Lawrence not good enough.

Those on the chopping block:

Davey

Morton

Bennell

Jetta

Davey seems to have lost it. Morton just soft. Bennell not good enough seemingly. Jetta keeps getting injured unluckily.

So with this...we'd possibly look at eight to ten players moving on.

The 2012 Draft

First Round Pick

After First Round Pick Compo

Mid First Round Pick Compo

Second Round Pick

Third Round Pick

Fourth Round Pick

Fifth Round Pick (Rookie promotion)

Viney will be the first or second round pick depending on how low on the ladder we are.

Rookies

Three rookie picks minimum to be used

2013 List

With this, Green departs. Jamar moves to vets list thus still giving us one promotion slot which will probably be used for Couch. Magner will get onto the main list on current form. I see Neeld aiming to turn over 8-10 and bringing in heavily from both the draft and making a move in the trade period for a quality mid.

It's clear that there still needs to be a lot of work done to get somewhere decent. With the draft meant to be so good this year and the importance of it to us, we need to get someone in who knows how to spot talent. We need to fill our Head recruiting role. I say, stuff McGuire and go after their #2 man, he's got no chance of taking our sponsors now. I don't think Rendell would be interested, given he wanted to get out of recruiting anyway, but stayed on because of the quality on hand in the 2012 draft.

The 2012 draft is a massive one it seems, for the MFC. We better not [censored] it up.

I just can't believe this is being discussed after round two .... We are a shambles .... Supporters included

Deestar - I couldn't agree more. There are another 21 rounds for the team to adapt to a very different game plan (in fact getting used to a game plan at all).

A footy season is a marathon, not a sprint.

And remember that I think round 2 or 3 2007? many Cats fans were baying for Thompson's blood.

It's certainly a marathon if you support Melbourne, it seems to drag on forever.

Seriously, we have little else to occupy our time and I can't see the team improving in the near future so we may as well look for some positives and picking up some good midfielders in the draft is one.

We're not Geelong with a team packed with stars, we're Melbourne with a team packed with ........ (choose your own description)

Yes quit talking 2013 will you....i turn 50 & i am definately not ready to cope yet.

HaHaHa, tis a beautiful thing, fear not young WYL.

I went thru that approaching the Big 30...

Doesn't bother me anymore.

Keep yourself reasonably fit & healthy WYL don't smoke. Or drink to excess. And take some supplements, that'll help the body, the mind is up to you.

Ah, footy, they're talking list, not 2013 specifically.

They're talking of having a future , & moving forward & progressing. Just don't lose the season as a spy hole in the front door of our club onfield. To watch and analyse our players growing like you would your vege seedlings.

Some are quick to sprout, while others take quite some thyme to grow and mature. The bigger the plant (Tree) the slower they grow. (usually)

What if you were a doggies fan for the last 50 years? A Cats fan since '63? A Saints fan since '66? A Tiges fan since the '80's? HIHo Freo says hello?

We are on the right track, especially now we are heading down the contested ball game type. We have talent on the list, and we have to now Indocrinate that Talent into bruising footballers. Some will & some won't.

#Edit: It all depends if you enjoy growing your own, & seeing the growth with pride,,, Or, if you want to buy from the shelf for instant gratification, & are impatient for the journey to end?

There's nothing wrong with talking about end of year changes after round two - it's not like you can't change your mind as the year plays out. I think comparing early season thoughts to the final result makes it interesting, personally.

I'll turn 30. If life begins at 40 I'll still have another 10 to wait!

I would reckon the following players OOC this year are under the spotlight (Start Dates in brackets):

BLEASE, Sam (2008) - While he wallows at Casey.....

STRAUSS, James (2008) - I have hopes he can make the most of his opportunities

BENNELL, Jamie (2008) - Got time for him but his latest game in Perth was poor, very poor

JETTA, Neville (2008) - LTI and yet to make a real impression at MFC. Definite candidate for delisting.

SPENCER, Jake (2007) - Given the slow start of our front line rucks (and Gawn is injured again) I am not so ready to cancel Jake out of the equation yet

SELLAR, James (2011) - He has a one year contract to make the grade. If he doesnt then there is no extension likely

JURRAH, Liam (2008) - Enough said on this.

PETTERD, Ricky (2006) - Still think he is a keep

BAIL, Rohan (2008) - Possible survivor without setting the world on fire

BATE, Matthew (2004) - Not convinced there is a future for him beyond this year

DUNN, Lynden (2004) - Convinced there isnt a future for him at MFC next year.

MOLONEY, Brent (2004) - I think Brent will be a keep for us

GREEN, Brad (1999) - On vets list but he looks finished in AFL

Lots of water still to run under the bridge but there are definitely signs on the wall for some.

MOLONEY, Brent (2004) - I think Brent will be a keep for us - Stay but needs to pull his socks up

GREEN, Brad (1999) - On vets list but he looks finished in AFL - Gone just seems to be unable to play this style of game

Rhino, I agree with your thoughts & slant. Some I am a tiny bit more patient with. not by much.

under the spotlight

BLEASE, Sam (2008) - While he wallows at Casey.....(got to show some fight & adherence to head over the ball.)

STRAUSS, James (2008) - I have hopes he can make the most of his opportunities, (keeper)

BENNELL, Jamie (2008) - Got time for him but his latest game in Perth was poor, very poor, (show some real ticker, or go)

JETTA, Neville (2008) - LTI and yet to make a real impression at MFC. Definite candidate for delisting. (Has courage, needs a tank, keep for me to see further)

SPENCER, Jake (2007) - Given the slow start of our front line rucks (and Gawn is injured again) I am not so ready to cancel Jake out of the equation yet. (Spence has guts & strength, typical Big guy development, keep for one more if he shows something this year.)

SELLAR, James (2011) - He has a one year contract to make the grade. If he doesnt then there is no extension likely, (Keep as we need the tall back balance. 1 Yr won't be enough to tell. 1 + 1.)

JURRAH, Liam (2008) - Enough said on this. (Hmmn, if he won't chase, tackle, & the other team things, I don't want him)

PETTERD, Ricky (2006) - Still think he is a keep. (Passionate player, can rise above because of this, big game hunter.)

BAIL, Rohan (2008) - Possible survivor without setting the world on fire (needs to believe more, & keep at it, keep)

BATE, Matthew (2004) - Not convinced there is a future for him beyond this year. (Hard worker, Honest. if he puts in this year in Mids & goes OK, I'd offer 1 more to improve.)

DUNN, Lynden (2004) - Convinced there isnt a future for him at MFC next year.(The great Pretender, goes when back to wall, then eases off, won't commit when necessary, self oriented. Gone)

MOLONEY, Brent (2004) - I think Brent will be a keep for us. (Keep or trade, up to Brent, but he has a kot of competition now for the inside grunt work.)

GREEN, Brad (1999) - On vets list but he looks finished in AFL. (Disinterested, tired looking flat, more to life it seems. Clogging the list, Gone)

# Davey contract 2013. - Time for Aaron to decide if he wantsto be a hard ball player akin to Brent Harvey, or other smalls, or not. This year will show his passion for the club or show his self interest, Trade or Keep. This Year)

# Morton. - Has to show quite a bit this Year IMO to be kept. Or Trade Table for sure. (We need to build a harder culture, more than we need Prima Donnas.) I think he'll go.

# JMacdonald, not sure of contract status. - I'd say good bye this year,,, where Davis especially needs game time, as well as Tapscott, Strauss, TMac, Morton, Blease, Taggert, need opportunities. Clogging the List.)

Most of these players would have been given the arse at other clubs yet we hold onto the Spencers and the Millers for years waiting for them to 'develop'. Id sooner see a few of these blokes get moved on at seasons end or traded and let some more mature agers from the VFL in.

Morton was a pick 4!!! he should be smashing it by now.
