Quite true. But given the Bailey is often holding the blame (albeit wrongly) for all and sundry thats wrong at MFC some forget that he end an era of senior players.

And indeed you have to be careful how you exit senior players. Its not just a random slash and burn that the torch carriers are wishing for. And the kids have to stand up.......

Unfortunately the kids have to stand up now, no one esle is leading the way that's why we have 2 inexperienced captains.

Yeah, I assume you are talking about the Derby day weekend album... how dare they enjoy a bit of social time together in November!

there's that word again.

educated guess would have been a better way for me to put it.

but i can judge col on his time at the club and what he has

produced on and off the field.

have also spoken to him several times at perth functions and to

me he comes across as a cheerful, not so bright bogan.

did not get any hint of a bloke on a mission to win a flag and i

reckon his form reflects that.

that he hasn't even been seriously considered for a leadership

role in 8 years at the club says it all for me.

as far as i'm concerned, he's no better than scully, just there

for the pay packet

Very harsh indeed. If we were to consider players on attitude and effort, then I would think half of our current squad would fit that bill. Sure Col may not be the brightest spark to ever walk the earth, but to say that he doesn't contribute and is just there for the money is a pretty poor call. Sure, he isn't always effective and isn't always focused, but I would argue that more often than not he tries and I think he would look a lot better if a few more of his team mates tried to the same degree.

disagree, leave it at that

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have found the long lost forth stooge.

Ok, I'm going to have to take you to task on that comment... it's the 6th stooge: Moe, Larry, Curly, Curly Joe and Shemp were the first 5 :-)

Good summary - I would add Moloney, if he is sulking, as some have suggested, and continues to o so. Mind you I suspect this is not true.

His assessment is actually quite accurate.

I'm not blinded by man-love for our players.

I think Col is very talented, but seriously lacking in ambition.

In a team sense, anyway.

One bad game, and he's on the scrap heap? Give Beamer a break

I've only heard of the 3 stooges. Sorry I don't really watch anything that was around in the 60's

One bad game, and he's on the scrap heap? Give Beamer a break

Been coming for a long time.

I said 2 years ago Beamer only had a couple of years left in him.

Since then he has dominated clearances for a period, but he is still a one-trick pony in a game that demands much more.

Adapt or perish.

One bad game, and he's on the scrap heap? Give Beamer a break

If only it were just the one bad game... unfortunately, over the last season or two, Beamer has gone missing when we have really needed him to stand up. I think you might find that his best performances have been against lesser performing teams.

His assessment was based in speculation from a couple of brief encounters at a Perth function, and I am not blinded by "man-love" for our players either.

Yeah Col has done some very stupid things, and he is an inconsistent player- but questioning his ambition is unfair, and comparing him to Judas is just plain scurrilous!

That's subjective and dependant on your opinion of Scully.

Based on probably just as brief encounters and observations of Col, I'd agree on the conclusions.

Col has had serious injuries to overcome and that has probably lead to him being introspective to a certain degree.

He has also proven to be immature and thoughtless during his time at the club, in spite of his obvious talent.

But he has never had the single-minded determination to succeed that you see in some other players.

My opinion is that he's in it for Col, and Col enjoys just being an AFL player and the perks that come along with it.

His motivation in the past has been that it might be all taken away from him.

That's just how I see it, and I'd love to see Col do something that proves to me that I'm wrong.

My opinion of Scully is that he is a cold hearted liar with no morals and no personality and he took my club for a ride. I think you'll find that opinion is not subjective.

My opinion of Col is that he is a talented twit.

And no one here can really comment on Colin's agendas as it all is just speculation isn't it? So trying to make assumptions based on brief encounters is unfair.

If it makes it easier for you to sleep at night thinking that of Scully, then fine.

But it is subjective, and I see it differently.

I think Colin has served up more than enough evidence for us all to be able to judge him fairly.

I sleep quite well knowing that GWS paid overs for a guy with a dicky knee and he now has to spend 6 years of his life in that dump.

And I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe you can judge a player unless you know him intimately. You keep making suppositions from your arm chair and I'll keep supporting him as long as he keeps showing up to play.

You find it quite easy to do about Scully...

I judge him on his performance on and off field, just as you do even though you pretend to take the imaginary high moral ground.

I find it very interesting that Brent Moloney escapes your list. I see Brent as one of the biggest 'diseases' at the club. I reckon he is sooking it up big time at the moment and from what I am told likes to get in the ears of other players. He is a good bloke Brent and we all know that he 'bleeds red and blue' but from what my sources tell me, he leads blokes down a somewhat 'unprossional' path. Sure he is in good shape and apparently trains hard etc etc, but he is well known for loving the party animal life too. Given that by all reports he tried to get out of the club at the end of last year, I feel he has cracked the sh1ts and has decided to sook it up big time. He was very lazy on the weekend. I reckon he might find himself at Casey this weekend. I hope I am wrong, but the bits and pieces I hear about Brent and his 'awesome foursome' arn't encouraging.

Well, if I knew of things like that were true then I too wouldn't cop it & he'd be gone.

The fact is I don't know it & haven't heard that stuff so can only go on what I know, & have witnessed. For mine from the onfield stuff I see, I'm not over him Yet. The others on that list are either left behinders of the changing game, or Talented NQR's

If only it were just the one bad game... unfortunately, over the last season or two, Beamer has gone missing when we have really needed him to stand up. I think you might find that his best performances have been against lesser performing teams.

It appears he is somewhat of an undeserving scapegoat...

"Oh we lost that game because Beamer didn't stand up, we needed him to and he didn't... so that's why we lost!"

Nevermind the 14 other guys getting beaten by their opponent, Beamer is the reason for the loss. And if he does have a good day and 'steps up' it gets taken for granted and he doesn't get recognition. Worse yet people say...

"Oh that wasn't a Hawthorn or a Geelong, it's not worth anything."

Truth is we wouldn't have beaten Essendon last year (finalist) if it wasn't for Moloney's 28 possession 2 goal game in probably the best win of the year. Nor would we have drawn with Sydney (another finalist) if it wasn't for his 27 possession 1 goal effort. Even on Queen's Birthday he still turned in a 25 possession game.

It isn't easy carrying a midfield and Moloney has done a damn good job of it considering what he has had to work with. Absolute blue-collar workhorse who gets very little appreciation on here, can only imagine how much uglier 2011 would have been had it not been for Beamer.

You cite 3 games out of a season... I like Moloney as a player when he is on song, but regardless of what any of us would like to think, he did go missing quite regularly and after Saturday's performance, he probably needs to be given a reality check... hopefully it might have a similar effect as his demotion which saw him lift his game. It doesn't mean it's the end of his career... and if he is "sent down", he certainly won't be running around with Casey on his lonesome and Neeld will have made a definitive statement that will hopefully wake a few players up.

The last game Col played last year was an absolute blinder . He had the ball on a string , and seemed unable to do anything wrong .

As I watched his game , I sighed with pleasure for its poetry in motion , but I also sighed wistfully for the "why don't we see this more often "

i'm no keyboard hero, i try and avoid abusing or denigrating other peoples opinions on these boards.

if i have sonething along those lines to say i make sure i'm prepared to say it to their face.

and yes, i did question col's motivation when last speaking to him and also asked why he hasn't been in the leadership group.

so i'm happy to meet you outside the g sometime this year and you can tell me what you really think.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
