MFC Head of Recruiting

There has been a few threads of late talking about drafting and trading.

What is happening with our recruiter since Prenders left?

People said he would have been sacked, but if that was the case i would have thought we were confident about replacing him? which to my knowledge hasnt happened?

We are heading into what has been labelled the next big Superdraft since 2001, and we dont have a head recruiting manager........W-T-F

This worries me, people need to follow players for upwards of 3-4 years coming into U18's

And we might end up with 4 picks inside 25....

Big drafting year coming up and i hope that we are suitably prepared for it

Yes i agree but we would have a fair idea about the kids out there. Maybe we should try get the geelong guy he has a good track record and melbourne has done well at getting big names to the club this year. GO DEES

Yeah my worry is that, at this time of year most clubs will have the recruiters locked in for the season? so will we end up with the 18th best AFL recruiter in the land?

Perhaps we could roll out the cheque book and poach Phil Scully from GWS (They seem to rate him highly). To seal the deal I suggest an innovative tactic... We'll pay one of his family members way above what they're worth to play for us!

I don't think the daughter's tall enough to make it in AFL football.

Nah, Phat Phil's got no 18 locked in tight

Viney, announced today. Interestingly timed thread this one!

And wears way too much spray tan.

Wait, it's still open season on mindless Scully family banter, right?

I vote that it is open season on that for all of eternity Nasher :)

Pretty sure his son isn't either....... Just sayin'

Not sure what to make of this, Viney might be capable but would prefer to have someone who has also watched the juniors over the past 3 or so year U16 up to be deciding on our biggest draft since 08.

There is already a thread on the Viney recruiting. And there is also a Lord Voldermort thread to thrash the issues on Scully

Please use those threads.

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

Melbourne wrapped up the AFLW home and away season with a hard-fought 14-point win over Geelong at Kardinia Park. The result secured second place on the ladder with a 9–3 record and a home qualifying final against the Brisbane Lions next week.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
