Ultimate Footy - Norm Smith League

All bids are in.

A surprising result, pick 1 not at all popular with most being conservative. Whether this was because no-one actually wanted pick 1, or because they thought everyone else would bid for it I couldn't say. But whichever way you cut it JackLivesHere's single bid on pick 1 wins it unopposed. Is it the poisoned chalice some have suggested?

I'll start drawing the bids out later this morning : in the mean time here is the spread:

1 JLH

2 RPFC, RR, OMR, DT, DT, DT, SNO

3 ROB, ROB, JLH

4 HT, DAP, OMR, 45HG, SNO, DV

5 JA, JAKO, JLH, RPFC, 45HG

6 ETH, 45HG

Relegation assumes that the RF league is somehow worse than ours, I don't think that is correct really, it's not like we are better.

And the more I think about it the more I think we should take a leaf out of the R Flower league and name our league after a great of our club. And really when it comes to a game that decides the greatest coach amongst us there is only one name to consider.

Would it be too much HT to rename the league (forum) to 'Ultimate Footy - Norm Smith League'?

So what have we decided on ? Jim Stynes League or Norm Smith League ? Happy to go with either.

Sorry to intrude on the big boys board, but as you're talking relegation I thought I might throw my two bob in.

Not sure how this keeper thing works but there is a natural progression in keepers anyway. The teams that came up could not keep anyone but get PP's. This would allow them first dibs on blokes they think might step up into the elite bracket. Not sure if it's possible but it would allow older under performing elites to be dropped in favor of the up and comers.

I'd be in favor of relegation as it mixes things up and would, over time, help us to get to know more of our fellow posters, and help to ensure the competitions are more even.

Having said that, if I were you guys I'd wait and see how our league goes before opening things up. Last season our league didn't have 1 trade done that I'm aware of as there was only a few of us playing and our starting players were too valuable to trade. 3/4's of the players were tied up in inactive teams.

Half our new league haven't even identified themselves yet and I'm already worried it could be another fizzer. I'll admit I kept an eye on your comp last year and it looked like fun if you can get it working properly. If I were you guys I wouldn't even consider it until you're sure our league is working.

Probably sage advice. Agree on the bolded section, they were my thoughts when I suggested it to try and make things in a way, more inclusive. As well as increase competition for the whole season.

With regards to promtion / relegation - i'm all for it - and whoever wins your little league here will be most welcome in ours as the promoted team for 2013

I like the competitive nature of your post, IWAP.

Norm Smith League it is.

No disrespect to Jimmy intended, but Norm Smith league just feels right to me.

Very interesting result! Knew I should have gone for 13! Just knew I didn't want 18 so any upgrade I was happy with. When you thinkin of drawing oh great one?

Sorry I have looked over this thread but I just couldn't work it out. Is this going to be like an AFL draft where it is 1-18, then the repeat order? Or will it be like last year, 1-18 then the order is reversed.

JCB has stated this lottery thing is very confusing. He reckons he trusts JA- just to place in order by putting the 18 names in a hat, mug , whatever and just draw it. It seems to hard and tiresome However, he has sent his pick to JA vIa me to his PM.

Tell him don't sweat, enjoy his trip, forget about UF, and have faith in JA.

As stated the draft system is the same as last year. (reversing) So in reality any draft pick you end up with is just as fair as any other.

So here goes the lottery:

PICK 1: Won unopposed by JackLives Here (fortune favours the brave)

PICK 2: Drawn name: Dream Team A successful brute force attack on pick 2.

PICK 3: Drawn name: JLH (invalid) You can't have Pick 1 and 3 JLH!

PICK 3: Drawn name: Robbo24 The only names remaining were both for Robbo.

PICK 4: Drawn name: OMR OMR snags it, 1 of the 6 bids placed.

PICK 5: Drawn name: RPFC Bastard! I think I went too hard now, shoulda gone pick 6

PICK 6: Drawn name: Eth 45HG just plain unlucky to have 3 picks pass him by. Well done Eth.

PICK 7: Drawn name: MM Went hard with 2 of his 3 picks on pick 7 and gets rewarded.

PICK 8: Drawn name: Deevoted 1 of 3 remaining valid names, SnomeD and Scarlett miss out.

PICK 9: Drawn name: Scarlett Eth was already out so it was the only option available anyway

PICK10: Drawn name: JCB Snags his single bid wit a calculated bid.

PICK11: Drawn name: HT Only valid name left was HT

PICK12: No bids: Snomed This bid defaults to SnomeD being the lowest ranked coach not yet assigned a pick.

PICK13: No Bids: 45HG another default pick

PICK14: No bids: JAKO13 Jako defaults to 14 despite a relatively conservative bid on 5 and 10.

PICK15: Drawn name: DL7 Last year's winner upgrades his potential last pick to 15, cleverly forcing Dappa into last pick.

PICK16: No bids: Range Rover Went hard for pick 2 and 7, couldn't snag his preferred so defaults to 16.

PICK17: No bids: Jackattack Not as I had planned it.

PICK18: No Bids: Dappa Unlucky bro, expect him to start spouting crap like: 'This is the pick I actually wanted' OR 'now I have 2 picks in the top 19!'

Well done JA.

Observations:

45, RR - unlucky.

Robbo24 and M_M both went hard for their picks 3 and 7 respectively by loading up and getting them.

The two new additions get picks 1 and 2 ! Have we heard (read) from them yet ? Who are they ?

Content with pick 11.

Long time demonland readers, quiet types. A short Bio of both has been posted and I have encouraged both to get involved as much as possible.

Pick 5 is pretty good.

It's all setup now for me to overthink and not pick someone who will dominate.

Amen.

Come at me, Ablett or Swan or Pendlebury or Franklin or jeeez Gonna have a fair few to choose from!!

Come at me, Ablett or Swan or Pendlebury or Franklin or jeeez Gonna have a fair few to choose from!!

That's the only good thing about picking last. I get 2 in a row, so there's less stress... Don't have to choose between two superstars. The only exception being if you have pick 1... Just take Sandi, and you'll always be pleased.

Throw in Marc Murphy , Joel Selwood , Sandilands , Mumford , Stevie J , NDS

Decisions , Decisions , Decisions - Very happy to have snagged selection 4

Pick 14 YAY!!!just what I always wanted.....FFFFFFFFFAAAAAAARRRRRRRKKKKK. I went backwards from my finishing position last year. At least pick 23 in round 2 is better than 36 - have to pull something out my rectal cavity

Very happy with picks 16 and 21 ... and the Range does his best work between picks 30 and 100!

Top picks could be a poisoned chalice the way we have the draft. In saying that gutted I didn't put in for pick 1.

Top 3 has to be Pendles, Selwood & Murphy though knowing Jack LH will probably time out before he decides.

Don't empty that Waste paper Bin to soon RR

You know I have the wood on you - Talk tough as much as you like in Feb

When the real stuff starts you know the doubts will resurface.

Look forward to some early season trading with you Old Foe!

Round 20 grudge match OMR. Lock it in!

I've got everyone's favourite competitor OMR first up. I know you like starting from behind Rivers so I'll pull a Travis Cloke on you and comfortably start you in the bottom 9 this year

Perfect pick 7, the pick I am able to over think and eventually pick someone who will be injured early knowing my luck! Happy with the new less weighting on frees, that was a big factor in my poor performance last year with Franklin often giving away 4-5

Thanks for your best wishes for my trip to The States

Only 6 sleeps to go until draft day - Getting very pumped for a season shaping Sunday evening!

Have to say Ablett comes into top 2 calculations now after his effort in the wet.

Not sure I have the aggots to pass on Murphy / Pendles but will make me think.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
