ROUND ONE - 2012 NAB CUP at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, February  25, 2012

• Brisbane Lions

• Gold Coast Suns

• Melbourne Demons

Hi Guys!

It occurred to me this morning, that the NAB cup games are about 6 weeks away and I had better get my act together and organise something.  So here it is ...

If you're already in Qld or you're thinking about either travelling up for the games, the QUEENSLAND DEMONS are planning pre-game lunch and  post matches drinks at Emerald Lakes Golf Course.

As parking is virtually non existent or you pay the various establishments a fee and have to walk for miles, we can organise parking as well for those doing lunch – an added incentive.

Although nothing is confirmed, we do have a booking with them and a couple of options:

• Set Menu – 2 course would be approx $40.00 which is a little pricey but the food's good and there's a lot of it  OR

• Seats booked at a small fee and everyone buys their own lunch ... seat booking fee is then given as a voucher to use for the meal. ( but voucher is not for alcohol).

Effectively there is little or no charge depending on the individual who will eat as much as they feel like. Last year that charge was $15. It is likely to be similar or slightly more but same kind of arrangement would be in place.

I do need an idea of numbers for the lunch – aftermatch doesn’t matter.. and we will need the $$ $ before match day. The amount will probably be decided next week when the function manager returns from holidays.

We will also be raffling off Rohan Bail’s 2011 guernsey – donated by his dad – so someone will go home with a nice prize on the day.

If you are interested, please email me with an approximate number of people and although not set in stone for now, we cant refund the seat fee as the club wont give it back – if u book and pay and then don’t go, you donate to Emerald Lakes Golf Club – not Qld Demons.

Will be attending the game with a few mates! Staying at the Royal Woods as we did last time i think it was against the Saints!

Is the Emerald Lakes Golf club the one we had the after match function last time against the Saints (before the new stadium) ?

So we got no aftermatch place to celebrate after yet?

Looking forward to it

At this point no need to set in stone..when do you find out your roster? We will be having a few game day functions this year so if you cant make this one, you can catch up with us the next month when we do round 1

Are our Demon Membership numbers up to date? We appear to have stagnated on about 21500. A long way to go for an anticipated 40,000 odd

Keeping an eye out for the next update. When there is I'll bump the Membership thread for a comparison from 2011 around the same time. We're on a par with last year it seems to date (or just ahead). We'll have a better indication before Australia Day.

Ok Everyone,

Emerald Lakes has given us the prices.

$15.00 each per adult

$10 each per child.

This is redeemable on the day for food so effectively lunch is paid for and we have our own area ,

We do now need you all to start working the numbers out. They require payment for the function approx 2 weeks before which is the 11th Feb. Therefore I will need to have your $$ by then. If you are interested and havent let me know officially, please email me with the subject NAB cup or NAB function and I will then send you bank details to pay for your "tickets".

There will be parking available for us at the club and therefore for the game.

Our email is [email protected]

Calling all Queenslanders and those planning a visit for NAB cup! We need you all to confirm ( yay or nay) if you will be coming to our pre-game function for NAB cup on 25th Feb. We have to book and pay for the table by the 11th Feb. Vouchers will be given out on the day of the function for you to use on the food of your choice and we will have an area set up for us.. PLEASE email me if you are planning on attending so I have your details for any further updates.. I dont want to clog this page up with reminders.. [email protected]

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
