Garry's always seemed to me to be this murky figure lurching around in the background somewhere. Never actually visible and never held responsible for anything but always seems to have one hand on the wheel. He'll never be coach, but I do wish he'd either put his hand up for an official role or get his finger out of the pie.

Spot on.

I'm sick of Lyon sniping from behind his comfortable media chair. At least Stynes and Schwartz are honest about where they sit, Lyon wants the best of both worlds, but no responsibility.

I agree with this entirely. He needs to, If he wants to be a relevant voice about the club, to become a servent of the club officially.

Be it President after Jim's had enough of it. Or as you say a footy dept' role, director or something.

He will never be a coach at the MFC, President or IMO-a footy dept' role, director. However a confidant to our beloved President/acting President I see. Maybe a mentor to a player like Jack Watts also.

He is too close to C.C,Viney ,O'Donnell etc..

I cant see Lyon ever as a Dees coach. For the simple reason he doesnt want to do it. Fair enough. Some possibly see him as the heir apparent to Jims seat. Maybe . Sometimes however some folk are able to do more without the contraisnts of officialdom. Often things are discussed in those darkened studies or back of restaurants. All 'unofficial" but with real overtones.

Maybe Lyons best role is lurking ?

It would be nice if he gave his good mate Jimmy a 'chop out' though as I believe Jimmy deserves this. Here's hoping!

Christ ease up will you? He's allowed to vest an opinion in a club he cares very much about, but he is very secure with media commitments and trying to provide for a family, labelling him a sniper is way out of order. I don't think Gary will step back and allow this joke of a club to self-destruct, he will get more involved and hopefully bring in some people that give a [censored].

Garry tonight said that he wants to keep his independence and not take up a position of responsibility within the club to enable him to do his job in the media, which sounds fair enough and he is entitled to do that. However he got on radio on Saturday afternoon and said that he was going to talk to the president to discuss what he thinks needs to be sorted out, and then met with Stynes to give his opinion, and left Stynes do the dirty work and front the media. That's the act of a sniper.

He wants the best of both worlds. He wants to wield power without any responsibility. Either get involved directly, or stay out of it. I have very little respect for him after the way that he has conducted himself.

You have very little respect for a man who's given more to this club than you ever will.

A man who played with an absolutely stuffed back and threw himself into the fray risking permanent damage doing the 1%ers that won us games. A man who responds to every request made of him by the club.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Agree with this in the sense that while emotion is a wonderful ( if overrated ) thing what counts much more is the cold hard decision of your will that requires commitment and hard yards,

Sincerely look forward to seeing Garry show a modicum of such ( real ) dedication.

It may yet happen.

Well I'm OK with that if he doesn't want to,,, As Long as he keeps his loud 'OnAir Mouth' closed, when we are Up against it, & sort things out 'inhouse'.

Thats the problem, he's still Living on those credits all that time ago, And taking the Lone ranger approach, ride in on Silver to rescue the Fair Maiden... Do it quietly and with Humility.

Gary Lyon - You are either in officially helping the Club in a transparent or you are out of it. I am not comfortable with him having the ear of the inner sanctum and then making critical public comments about MFC.

I am sick of having "mates" who pie float around the place.

And I dont want someone who has had no proper coaching experience in the 12 years since he retired coaching us.

Its clear we seem to have lacked clear functional roles in the FD with CS and CC. We dont anymore in the place for "friends of the President".

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
